Tip

The throw this month is made in Super Saver, but the sample is done in Soft. One of the special stitches for this throw is the tr3tog, or treble crochet 3 stitches together. The tr3tog is a decrease stitch used in the Ripple Pattern section of this throw. It's easier than it sounds! You'll be making 3 partial treble crochets and then putting them all together to end them and make one stitch.

The sample starts with a row of single crochet and then a row of treble crochet. For the pictures, we are working a second row of treble crochet.

Like all treble crochet stitches, start by working a yarn over twice.

TOTM-August-1

Next, insert your hook into the next stitch, yarn over, and pull up a loop. Now you have 4 loops on your hook. From left-to-right, you have the loop you pulled up from the next stitch, the two loops from the initial two yarn overs, and the loop from the previous stitch.

TOTM-August-2

Yarn over and draw through two loops on the hook, so now you have three loops.

TOTM-August-3

Then yarn over and draw through two loops on the hook again, leaving you with two loops.

TOTM-August-4

The first partial treble crochet (on the left) is now finished. If you were making a regular treble crochet, you would yarn over and pull through both loops on the hook. Since we're decreasing and combining stitches, we leave the partial treble crochet as-is for now.

Now you'll repeat from the beginning again, with two yarn overs.

TOTM-August-5

Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop. Because you have the partial treble crochet, this time you have 5 loops on your hook instead of 4.

TOTM-August-6

Yarn over and draw through two loops on the hook, and then do it again. Now your second partial treble crochet is completed. From left-to-right on the hook you have the second partial treble crochet, the first partial treble crochet, and then the loop from the previous stitch.

TOTM-August-7

Repeat from the beginning a final time by doing two yarn overs....

TOTM-August-8

...then inserting the hook into the next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop.

TOTM-August-9

Finally, yarn over and draw through two loops on the hook, and then do it again. You now have three partial treble crochets on your hook.

TOTM-August-10

To complete the stitch, yarn over and draw through all four loops on the hook.

After the row is completed, you can see the decrease in the middle.
