Do you know any tennis players who are expecting? Want to surprise them with a tennis ""set""? Well keep reading for some super cuteness. My good friends are both avid tennis players so I thought making them some tennis items for their new addition would make for some super fun newborn photos! I began with crocheting the diaper cover using Red Heart Super Saver Bright Yellow. I used Red Heart's Cutie Blue Bird Hat & Diaper Cover free pattern. Click here for the free pattern instructions. Then I changed colors from Super Saver Bright Yellow to White for the edging, weaved in the ends and sewed on the buttons. I think using white for the edging makes the diaper cover resemble a tennis ball once it's folded and buttoned in place... the look I was going for. After completing the diaper cover, I began working on the tennis ball. I used the ""Baseball"" directions from Red Heart's Young Athlete Blanket and Rattles free pattern. Click here for the pattern directions. Once the ends were woven, I began stitching the tennis ball ""seams"" using a yarn needle and a long strand of Super Saver White. Then onto the headband. I used Red Heart's Kids Crochet Headband free pattern. Below are the pattern directions I used to complete this. Ch 4.Row 1:Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 2 ch; turn “ 3 sc.Row 2:Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.Repeat Row 2 until desired length. Fasten off. Continue Row 2 until strip measures approximately 35 cm long. Check to see that it will fit comfortably, with a little bit of stretching around the head at the desired position before fastening off. Fasten off leaving a yarn tail. Thread the yarn tail into the yarn needle and sew the ends of the first and last rows together, being careful that the strip is not twisted. And there you have it... newborn tennis ensemble. :) Make a "set" for your new tennis star! Here is the cutest tennis star I know, Mr. Logan! He's got ""Athlete"" written all over him!
