Free Crochet Pattern: V-Stitch Easter Egg Cozy

Crochet Easter egg cozies are just so cute. Technically they are functional items that are used to keep hard-boiled eggs warm. However, they can also be used for decor, photo props, hiding eggs and so much more. Crochet Easter egg cozies work up quickly, offering an instant gratification project that is great for stash-busting. Here is one free crochet pattern for a V-stitch Easter egg cozy.

Abbreviations
Ch - Chain
Dc - Double Crochet (American terms)
Sk - Skip
Sl st - slip stitch

Special Stitches
V-stitch. The V-stitch is made with 1 dc, ch 1 space, 1 dc. Learn all about the V-stitch and it's variations here.
Double V-stitch. This pattern also uses a double V-stitch. This is made with 1 dc, ch 1 space, 1 dc, ch 1 space, 1 dc.

Materials
Red Heart Super Saver Economy Yarn (shown here in 305 Aspen Print and 310 Monet Print)
Size E Crochet Hook

Instructions
Chain 4 and join with slip stitch to create ring. (Alternatively, you can begin with an adjustable ring).

Round 1: Ch 4. Dc into center of ring. (This counts as the first V-stitch.)

*Dc, ch 1, dc. Repeat from * 4 more times for a total of 6 V-stitches.

Slip st into third ch of first ch 4.

Round 2: Ch 4. Work into the closest ch space: dc, ch 1, dc. (This counts as the first double V-stitch.)

*Skip 2 dc. Dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc into next space.

Repeat from * 4 more times for a total of 6 double V-stitches.

Slip st into third ch of first ch 4.

Round 3: Ch 4. *Skip 3 dc. Dc, ch 1, dc into next space.

Repeat from * 4 more times.

Skip 3 dc. Dc, ch 1 into next space. Slip st into third ch of first ch 4 to complete the final v-stitch. (6 total V-stitches).

Note that this is a decrease round so the egg cozy shape will begin to form here.

Round 4: Ch 4. *Dc, ch 1, dc into center of V.

Repeat from * 4 more times.

Dc, ch 1 into last space. Slip st into third ch of first ch 4 to complete the final V-stitch. (6 total V-stitches).

Round 5: Slip st in each st around. 17 total slip stitches.

Finish off and weave in ends.
