We at Yarnspirations are loving lace and lace-inspired projects for Summer. Whether you choose to go traditional with an open-weave stole or doily-esque tea tray mat, or use lace-weight yarns in new and unexpected ways there’s something about light-as-a-feather projects that scream, sweet summery surrender! My latest Loose Ends, column project for Interweave Crochet Magazine gives a (hopefully) unpredictable nod to the lace trend by pairing Patons Lace with rhinestones, marabou feathers, and milliners net to create a vintage-style fascinator. I had so much fun designing this piece because it allowed for me to combine the delicate nature of a fine-wight yarn with the structure of floral wire, and the glam mindset of a 1930’s starlet. Swoon. I envision this headpiece on a cool, indie bride, as a formal tea party accessory, or even worn to the theater (preferably to see a production of The Great Gatsby!) Really, though it’s just a jumping off point for your own, creative expression. Pick a color palette, follow my pattern for the crocheted petals, then gather and add any trimmings that speak to you. I’d love to see what you come up with! FEATURED YARN Until next week: happy, headpiece making! xx, Vickie @vickiehowell Until next week: happy, headpiece making! xx, Vickie @vickiehowell
