SUMMER STITCH ALONG

Let’s get started! This pattern is worked from the center. Cluster wedges build the foundation of this colorful throw, creating a small flower motif as the focal point of a richly textured center.

Beginning with a ring, create a series of single crochets in the round. At the end of row 2, you’ll have created your first cluster! Row 9 brings a delightful and surprising technique, using post stitches to lie down horizontally in the center.

Feeling centered? Make sure to take your time with Week 1 and focus on your work to create a truly eye-catching mid-point.

SPECIAL STITCH: Cluster Wedge. This special stitch consists of two clusters, with one filling the space and the other wrapping around the first so it’s on its side.

Are you a fan of the fan stitch? In this lesson we’ll be diving into some delightful posts, puffs and popcorn stitches to build out our center. By the end of this week we will have completed our center.

TIP: For the 19th round, push the chain 5 under your double crochet to trap it under the stitches. Jump over the popcorn stitches so they remain exposed in the front.

It’s hip to be a square! Welcome to the third week of our Study of Ombre Crochet Along. This week we’re building from the beautiful center point we created and transitioning our shape to a square. This lesson includes some gorgeous additional texture to the corners to really play up the color fade.

NOTE FROM MIKEY: There will be a lot of counting this week to get yourself squared off, but trust me when I say this will be the last time you need to count so consistently. The weeks ahead are easy repeats back and forth.

Are you ready for Week 4? In this lesson we’ll be adding our second shade and creating some intricate diagonal spikes. This week includes some easy repeats, perfect for catching up on your shows.

We’re in the home stretch! This week we’ll be working some cross ripples stitches and adding our third shade.

NOTE FROM MIKEY: I’m most proud of this stitch of all. I believe I created or invented this stitch. I call it the cross ripples stitch. I didn’t realize while coming up with it just how much texture the back side of this stitch would create. Most of this week includes working on the back or wrong side of the blanket to keep that beautiful texture on the right side.

Welcome back to another week of summer stitching! This week we’re hitting the slopes with some alpine ribs. This section includes some fun colorplay and easy repeats.

TIP: Changing yarn at the same corner throughout this segment will have 1 color always looking out of place. When starting a new colour, jump to a different corner to start so it appears to blend better.

You’ve reached the end of the journey! For our final week we’ll be practicing single crochets, double crochets, and half double crochets to frame our masterpiece in a gorgeous back loops border.

NOTE FROM MIKEY: You may be playing yarn chicken with the last round using A or C. Switch to a different color if you feel you won’t have enough to go around. We are left with approximately 3 feet of yarn, which can be a bit close.
