This simple sewing project uses Bernat Macramérope and Dual Duty XP All Purpose multicolor thread to create unique rope bowls for your jewelry, trinkets and sewing accessories. Perfect for gift-giving, too! The multicolor thread creates a variegated pattern that adds color and interest to your project. By playing with how you coil the Bernat Macramé cord, you can change the shape and size of your bowl. This is a fun use for multicolor thread that shows off the variegated shades perfectly. Supplies Dual Duty XP All Purpose multicolor thread Bernat Macramé (8.8 oz/250 g; 44 yds/40 m) - 1 ball (Shown in Natural, Duck Egg and Olive) Sewing machine with zigzag stitch capability Scissors How Much Bernat Macramé Do I Need? Note: One ball will make at least one to two bowls depending on the size you make! Olive Bowl: Approx 10½" [26.5 cm] diameter x 6" [15 cm] height. 1 ball or 25 yds/23 m Natural Bowl: Approx 5½" [14 cm] diameter x 1½" [4 cm] height. 1 ball or 6 yds/5.5 m Duck Egg Bowl: Approx 8" [20.5 cm] diameter x 3½" [7.5 cm] height. 1 ball or 13 yds/12 m Steps 1.Set up your sewing machine: a. Set your machine to the widest zigzag stitch and medium stitch length. These settings may vary based on your machine. You want your stitch to look something like as below. b. Ensure the presser foot on your sewing machine works with a zigzag stitch. This is usually the standard foot that comes with your machine. The foot on the right is the zigzag foot. The foot on the left is the straight stitch foot. c. Load your bobbin and needle thread with Dual Duty XP® All Purpose thread. 2. Pull the Bernat Macramé rope end from the centre of the skein. 3. Tie a knot at the end of the rope, leaving a small tail. 4. Begin wrapping the rope around the knot, keeping the coil flat. This will be the bottom of your bowl. 5. Place the small coil in your machine and begin zigzag stitching the coil together. Since the yarn and knot are a little thick at this point, I like to use a pair of scissors to help turn the yarn while I stitch. 6. Continue to wrap the rope around the knot in a circular motion, keeping the coil as flat as possible. The goal is to centre your zigzag stitch to catch both pieces of rope laying side by side. 7. Start to tilt the coil of Bernat Macrame yarn to create the sides of your bowl. The angle you use determines the shape of your bowl. 8. To make a handle, simply stitch completely on your single strand of rope running through the machine instead of catching the adjacent rope with your zigzag stitch for a small section. 9. To finish your bowl, cut the rope, turn under and stitch in place.
