Ice Cream Swirl Crochet Hat

<

Hi there, Brittany here from B.hooked! I hope you’re having a wonderful summer! I’m so excited to share my latest project with you from the Foodie Baby lookbook, the Ice Cream Swirl Crochet Hat.

Caron Simply Soft yarn in Fuschia, Chocolate and Off White

The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind for me but I wouldn’t change a thing. Like you, I tend to cling to my yarn to de-stress and relax. There has been lots of yarn clinging lately! This month, I clung to one of my favorite yarns to make one of the cutest hats I have ever seen! I love making baby projects for two reasons; they’re quick “wins” and my niece looks adorable in them! The Ice Cream Swirl Crochet Hat is brand new in the July Lookbook and, well, it was a done deal!

Now I’ll admit, I don’t eat ice cream much, but my favorite flavor is raspberry chocolate chip. “Why not make a raspberry chocolate chip hat?” I thought. Yes!

The Ice Cream Swirl Crochet Hat being worked up in Caron Simply Soft

On any given day, you’ll find a healthy supply of Caron Simply Soft in my stash. I just can’t get enough of this soft and practical acrylic. Fuchsia, chocolate and off white is a beautiful combination and it reminds me of my favorite treat, raspberry chocolate chip.

I found the pattern incredibly easy and fast to work up. Don’t be alarmed by the “swirl” design of this hat. Although the instructions look rather long, you’re only changing the beginning and end of the rows and I filmed a video tutorial to walk you through it! From the time I started to the time I finished, only 2 hours had lapsed. I wouldn’t consider myself a fast crocheter either. If you have a baby shower coming up and you want to create something unique and adorable, the Ice Cream Swirl Hat is a great choice!

Finished Ice Cream Swirl Crochet Hat in Caron Simply Soft yarn

After completing my first Ice Cream Swirl hat, well, like finishing a bowl of ice cream you just want another, right?! Now if you know me, you know I’m always looking for a way to put my own spin on things. I had a look through my stash and happened upon another one of my favorite yarns Bernat Pop! yarn. The colorways, the transitions, the softness - I simply LOVE it!

The colorway called Planetary has always caught my eye and I couldn’t help but wonder what it would look like with this pattern. The color transitions are long, and the pattern is small – but why not see what happens!

I simply love the look! For a full description of how I made the yarn substitution from Caron Simply Soft to Bernat Pop! yarn, check out my blog post here! I’ll see you next month, friends! You can also watch the video tutorial below!
