Stitch 'n' Pitch Slide ShowBeginner
I’m still giggling over the fact that the same gal who was always last to be chosen in P.E., and was arguably the worst player on the worst team in our 7th Grade softball league was interviewed over the weekend on Fox Sports. I’ll just add it to the list of of great, unexpected adventures I’ve had over the past dozen years — all in the name of yarn!
The setting for this random experience was a Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox game in Dallas, TX. The folks at Caron United (a Yarnspirations brand) teamed up with Michaels Craft Stores to host a Stitch n’ Pitch event to benefit Children of Fallen Patriots. We were joined at Globe Life Field by a small army of knitters and crocheters (who stitched in the stands), military veterans, and baseball enthusiasts alike.
Although, as I alluded to, I’m no “Sporty Spice” myself I can truly say that this baseball game was, well, a game changer as far as my interest in professional sports goes. The good that can be done when a voice as strong as one held by an American institution like baseball is amazing … and, from the 1st pitch thrown by 13-year-old CFP recipient, Austen Grogan to the post-game completion of stitcher’s squares for the cause, our day was pretty amazing, too. Here’s a slide show of the event.
I hope you’ll continue to support our efforts to raise money and awareness for Children of Fallen Patriots. Knitting blanket squares for what will be the Guinness World Record’s largest stocking with help put scholarships directly into the hands of kids who’ve lost a parent to military service. Cast on; chain on. Let’s work together to stitch kids’ way to college!
CharityIt’s official! Caron yarn has set the Guinness World Record for The Biggest Knit/Crochet Stocking! Thank you to everyone that donated a blanket…
