Lily Sugar’n Cream Yarn Review By Tamara Kelly
Lily Sugar'n Cream is a long time favorite! Available just about everywhere you can buy yarn, it's many crafters' first choice – for everything from casual wearables to accessories to home goods!
Made of natural, 100% cotton grown in the USA, Lily Sugar'n Cream works up beautifully in both knit and crochet. It's a very versatile worsted weight, and adds a great summer feel to any project! With it's easy care and high absorbancy it's wonderful in the kitchen too – so handy!
Lily Sugar'n Cream was one my first favorite yarns. I made boleros, bags, blankets, and dozens of dishcloths and kitchen items with this yarn. And with over 50 colors and varieties to choose from, you'll find you can make the same pattern several times and get a new look with each project.
This is a plied yarn, so it's possible to split it with your hook and needles, but I don't find it to be particularly splitty – and knots are quite rare. And it frogs well too! While it is delightfully consistent, there is still a dye lot – so you should always get enough to make your project before you begin. (And there's always something fun you can make with the leftovers!)>
Sugar'n Cream washes and wears beautifully – I have a 15+ year old blanket that I made, and it's only gotten softer and more lovely with time. It hasn't fuzzed or pilled up at all. That said, some colors can run – I always recommend using a color catcher the first time you wash your finished project just to be safe!
Lily Sugar'n Cream is a fantastic yarn for beginners – inexpensive, cheerful, and easy to use! But as an experienced crocheter and knitter, it's also one I return to any time I want a good, basic, kitchen style cotton. There are hundreds of free patterns and craft projects you can make with it – including many on Moogly and my newest creation available right here on Yarnspirations.com! The Loopy Stitch Crochet Lawn Rug was super fun and easy to make. I opted for Lily Sugar’n Cream in the cone sizes to make my project.
I hope you'll give it a try – or try a few new shades! I can’t wait to see what you create with it. Don’t forget to share your creations with me over on Moogly Blog and with @Yarnspirations on social media!
