DIY Thread Crochet Earrings

During the holidays we're always looking for ways to personalize our gifts and stay within budget. Crochet thread is relatively inexpensive, and is the perfect material to use to crochet these beautiful earrings. When you add crystals, and make different colored earrings for your friends and family, each person will know you took the time to personalize a pair just for them! These earrings add just a touch of glamour needed during this festive time of year, and work up in just a few hours.

Golden Circle Earrings

Supplies

  • Aunt Lydia's Metallic Crochet Thread Size 10: 1 ball 90G Gold
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook: 2.75mm/US C-2
  • 2 ear wires
  • 6 head pins
  • 10 jump rings
  • 14 crystals
  • jewelry pliers
  • jewelry wire cutters

Directions

Small circle
Ch 4, slip st to form ring; ch 3 (counts as 1st dc) then dc 11 more times into ring -- 12 sts

Large circle
Ch 4, slip st to form ring, ch 4 (counts as first tr), treble crochet 17 more times into ring-- 18 sts.

Assembly
Use a jump ring to attach an ear wire to one side of the small circle.
Use another jump ring to attach the other side of the small circle to the large circle.
Thread the crystals onto the head pins. Add three crystals to one head pin and two crystals each to two additional head pins.
Use the wire cutters to snip off the excess wire from the head pin.
Use jewelry pliers to bend head pin to form a loop.
Use another jump ring for each head pin to attach the head pins onto the bottom portion of the larger circle.

Repeat all steps for the second earring.

  • Aunt Lydia's Classic Crochet Thread Size 10: 1 ball 154 Burgundy B
  • Susan Bates Crochet Hook: 2.75mm/US C-2
  • 2 ear wires
  • 8 jump rings
  • 6 head pins
  • 20 crystals of various sizes
  • jewelry pliers
  • jewelry wire cutters

Directions


Granny Square

With A, ch 4 then slip st to form ring. Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc into ring, ch 3, *3 dc into ring, ch 3; repeat from * twice more. Ch 1, slip st into top of beginning ch-3 to close. Cut thread. Weave in ends.

With B, join in any corner space with a slip st. Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc into same space. * 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in next space; repeat from * twice more. Ch 1, slip st into top of beginning ch-3 to close. Cut thread, leaving a tail, and weave in first end.

Assembly
Using a jump ring, attach the ear wire into an open space on the top of the square.
Thread the crystals on to the head pins. Make one head pin with four crystals and two head pins with three crystals each.
Use the wire cutters to snip off the excess wire from the head pin.
Use jewelry pliers to bend head pin to form a loop.
Use jump rings to attach the head pins filled with crystals to the opposite side of the square from where the ear wire is attached, and into the two corners on that side.

Repeat for second earring.
