A friend of mine is having a little girl in March and her nursery theme is owls. I found Red Heart's Cutie Blue Bird Hat pattern and thought what a perfect gift it would be! Maybe they can use this for some ""cutie"" newborn pictures. I used Super Saver Orchid for the hat, Baby Pink for the feathers, Bright Yellow for the nose and White and Delft Blue for the eyes. See the pictures below of my progress. If you're making a baby hat with earflaps for the first time, this pattern is a good one to use. It's quick with easy steps... my kind of project! Here is the hat before making the earflaps: Here is the hat with the right earflap complete: and the left earflap complete: Then the edging which includes the long straps: I made the 2 white circles for the eyes, but for the ""iris/pupil"" part of the eyes, this pattern uses buttons. I didn't have any cute ones I wanted to use in my sewing basket so I decided to crochet 2 circles with Super Saver Delft Blue. If you want to do this as well instead of using buttons, here are the steps I used: Make an adjustable ring, ch 1 then work 10 sc in the ring and join with a slip st. Pull gently on tail to tighten ring. Then sew these onto the white circles. Then I made the 3 feathers and nose: Then I took the eyes, feathers and nose and sewed them onto the hat.nd there you have it.... Cutie Bird Hat! And here's a pic of the proud parents-to-be! So happy for them!
