As you can see I’ve been enjoying this animal print trend lately. Enough to carry it over into my Spring projects. I love a good pop of print though, specifically for a skirt or short paired with neutral basics. I’ve been wanting to make a wrap skirt with a zipper closure on the front, so I paired the inspirations into one project. My sewing motto has always been why sew boring clothes? Maybe the leopard print is a bit bold for some, but this pattern is great in a lot of different fabrics from denim to leather. The zipper detail on the front transforms any skirt from basic to edgy. Get the details below and make your own. Supplies: 1 yd. cotton fabric Sewing pattern: You can use this pattern or this tutorial is very similar here. Coats Fashion Brass Closed Bottom Zipper 7″ Coats All Purpose Zipper 7″ (for back of skirt) Coats All Purpose Thread Brother Sewing Machine SE1900 DIY Instructions: Cut out your pattern and sew the dart both front and back. Sew the All Purpose Zipper on the back according to the pattern instructions. Zipper and back piece is complete. Sew the bottom and top hem of the front panel. Pin to the front of the skirt and sew the sides together (right sides up). Try on the skirt and find the proper placement to sew the zipper closure. Mark with a fabric marking tool. Press the front panel side edge under 1/4″ (where zipper will attach). Place the zipper under the front panel, fold over the zipper tape ends, and pin. Stitch using the zipper foot and continue to sew the front panel hem down. Then sew the other side down onto the main skirt front where you marked. Sewing the zipper on. Sew front and back pieces right sides together at side seams. Finish the bottom hem. The pattern used facing for the waistline. My favorite look is paired with a chunky black turtleneck.
