Hi! My name is Sarah Zimmerman and I am the crocheter behind the blog Repeat Crafter Me! I am excited to show you this adorable handmade Halloween costume! Based on the classic fairytale, this Little Red Riding Hood Cape is the perfect crocheted costume accessory. Made with simple SC stitches this piece works up quickly and is great for beginners! I used Bernat Super Value Yarn in Berry. The worsted weight yarn paired with the hooded cape design will keep your little ones warm while trick-or-treating! Let me walk you through a quick tutorial of the construction of the hooded cape. SIZE One size to fit child 3 to 5 years old. GAUGE 13 sc and 14 rows = 4" [10 cm]. INSTRUCTIONS Hood Ch 81. 1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of ch. Turn. 80 sc. 2nd row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Rep last row until piece from beg, when slightly stretched, measures approx 10" [25.5 cm]. Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 25 sc. (Sc2tog. 1 sc in next sc) 10 times. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. 70 sts. Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each st to end of row. Fasten off. Fold piece in half with WS facing tog. Sew across last row for center back Hood seam. After you have created the Hood portion of the pattern you will be left with a somewhat rectangular piece. You will want to fold it in half and stitch up the back using the mattress stitch. Now working along the bottom rough edge of the hood, attach yarn, chain 1 and SC all the way across making 70 SC stitches, chain 2, turn. This will be the start of the cape. Cape With RS facing, join yarn with sl st to Hood at bottom left. 1st row: Ch 1. Work 70 sc evenly along edge of Hood. Turn. 2nd row: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Work 1 dc in each sc to end of row. 70 dc. Turn. 3rd row: Ch 1. Work 2 sc in each dc to end of row. 140 sc. Turn. 4th row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn. Rep last row until Cape measures approx 13" [33 cm] from bottom of Hood. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Now you are ready to attach your Hoodie Drawstring. With a series of chains and slip stitches (refer to your pattern), you will create a long drawstring. Ch 141. Sl sl in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in each ch to end of ch. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Weave drawstring over and under dc sts in 2nd row. Make two yarn pom-poms. Attach one to one end of the string and weave drawstring over and under through row of DC. Attach second pom-pom to other end. Wrap yarn around 3 fingers approx. 40 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut through each side of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape. Attach one Pompom to each end of Drawstring. Now your handmade Halloween costume is complete! Happy Crocheting! Sarah Let me walk you through a quick tutorial of the construction of the hooded cape. SIZE One size to fit child 3 to 5 years old.
