Hi, I’m Kristen Mangus, the knitting video host and designer from the GoodKnit Kisses YouTube channel. I love teaching and being the knitting host for Yarnspirations this year. I hope you enjoy my latest blog and tutorial for YOU. Learn how to knit the baby hat featured in the Wee Stripes Knit Pullover and Hat pattern from the Modern Nursery Lookbook by Yarnspirations! Wee Baby Hat First let me just say that the babies in the Modern Nursery Lookbook are totally adorable and steal the show! Why? Because they are wearing a super adorable pullover and hat that’s why! …Okay and they are babies. Ha! The pullover sweater in the main pattern features stripes. The hat compliments the accent stripe in a matching pompom to complete the ensemble. I love that this set is totally cute and unisex. You can safely knit away early for your precious baby or grandbaby on the way till your heart’s desire. There are so many colors to choose from in the Bernat Softee Baby Yarn as well but I really do love the Little Mouse color I used; in fact my husband asked me to make one for him! Although the pullover has stripes, you could absolutely add an accent strip into your baby hat as well. The Wee Knit Hat features a garter brim with stocking stitch body and a decreased crown, which works to a point, for an elf-like pointed beanie and topped with a pompom. The hat is knit bottom up in a flat panel and seamed. In the tutorial I cover all of it. If you cringe at the thought of a seam I will gently urge you to consider it a nice, small practice project before diving into seaming a sweater; if this is your first time. The pattern falls in the EASY SKILL level for knitting. I cover all stitches, increases, decreases, seaming, weaving tails and making a pompom so if this is your first knitting project you will have all skills needed in this video. If you have never knit a stitch before I do recommend learning to longtail cast on, knit and purl with one of my slower videos first. Let’s make this baby hat together! This video features the pattern using Bernat Softee Baby Yarn. It is a Light 3 weight yarn in 100% acrylic. This yarn has been tested for harmful substances. “Bernat Softee Baby Yarn has been tested for harmful substances and approved according to the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, so you can stitch on with the confidence that your baby is wrapped up in a project made with care.”-Yarnspirations SIZES: The tutorial features the 6-12 month size. The pattern also calls for a 18-24 month sizes as well. I go over instructions for this size as well in the video. Links and supplies are below.
