For the back of the pillow, use a sturdy woven fabric, such as denim or corduroy, in a color to coordinate with the hooked design. If you plan to wash the pillow, be sure the fabric for the back of the pillow is washable and has been preshrunk. Use Coats & Clark™ Dual Duty XP, a Universal Point Machine Needle, size 90 (14), and an all-purpose presser foot. When stitching, use your left hand to flatten the pillow just beside the presser foot. 1. Trim the canvas, leaving a 1 1' (2.5 cm) margin on all sides. 2. Cut the fabric the same size as the trimmed canvas. 3. Place the canvas and fabric right sides together, keeping the yarn ends away from the stitching line. 4. Pin the canvas and fabric right sides of the design and fabric together. Stitch from one corner to the next, close to the row of knots and through the strands of canvas parallel to the edge. Pivot at the corner and repeat around 3 sides. Leave one side open. 5. If necessary, re-stitch any sections close to the knotted yarn so that no canvas strands show on the right side. 6. Trim the seam allowances to 1/2" (1.3 cm). Trim the corners diagonally, leaving one square at the corners. Turn the pillow right side out. 7. Stuff the pillow using either a pillow form or loose stuffing, such as polyester fiberfill. 8. Whipstitch the opening the remaining side closed, working the stitches through the strands of the canvas and the fabric (18).
