Bernat Blanket Yarn Review with Tamara of Moogly

Bernat Blanket

Hey! It’s Tamara of Moogly Blog, and I am here to chat about Bernat Blanket yarn! Bernat Blanket is a super bulky, luxuriously-soft, cozy chenille-style yarn. It’s perfect for home décor projects and all sorts of fun kid and pet patterns. It has become a beloved classic for many crafters, including myself!

Chenille style yarn is a little different from most yarns you’ll find. During close inspection, you’ll notice that this soft yarn is not your average wool spun yarn, it is a string of fuzziness bursting out on all sides! So it’s not plied or wound, just pure indulgent softness. Petting is allowed and encouraged! There is a ton of squish here – and oodles of coziness.

This construction means that Bernat Blanket doesn’t have a lot of inherent stretch, and since it’s a Super Bulky, this makes it perfect for quick home projects. You can make some of the fastest blankets and pillows with this yarn – perfect for gift-giving!

There are 70 colorways of Bernat Blanket to choose from – solids, prints and twists. They are all 100% polyester and easy to care for, as they are machine washable and dryable – making it great for children or pet projects and gifting without worry! Mix and match, get creative and crafty!

Bernat Blanket works well for both crochet and knitting, and with 220 yards per skein, you can get a lot of stitches in. There is a dye lot, so while it’s pretty consistent, you’ll want to get enough up front for your project. (And it pulls out well when you make a mistake too!)

While the recommended hook and needle sizes create a lovely fabric, you can get great stiffness by going down a size or two – perfect for baskets, toys, and big amigurumi!
