This week we're building the base of our new furry friends by creating their head and body, plus adding some character to their little faces. The head / body is worked in one piece from the bottom up, beginning with a magic loop. You'll build the shape upward through a series of increases and decreases in the round. Now is a great time to start adding your polyfill to the form to give the bottom some structure. Our animals start to take shape as we learn to create the snout, add whiskers, and attach the safety eyes and nose before closing the top Download Lesson 1 TIP Add a bit of your polyfill stuffing underneath the snout before you've closed it to give your stuffie some additional shaping. lesson 2: Ears, arms, feet and tail We are PAWS-itively delighted to bring you our second lesson! This week Sarah will be teaching us how to create all the cute little components for our furry friends. Learn to work up the ears, arms, feet and tail in the round using single crochet increases and decreases. Complete the same steps for both the cat and dog stuffies, the only difference between the two will be your colors and ear shape. Adding your stuffing gradually to the appendages while you work helps to fill narrow corners and keep the fullness distributed equally without lumps. Don’t attach your components just yet, as we’ll be putting them all together in Week 3! Download Lesson 2 TIP For pieces that include a color change, you can save yourself some weaving time by knotting your ends and stuffing them into the appendage, along with the filling. Make sure to keep the tail end of the working yarn to assemble in our next lesson. lesson 3: Assembly Grab your tapestry needle, it's assembly time! This week we're bringing all our components together and creating some fun accessories to finish our adorable amigurumi set. Learn to attach the ears, arms, feet and tail to your base and work up a cute collar tag to personalize your project. Don't forget to follow along with the video tutorial for directions on attaching both the cat and dog ears, as they secure a little differently. Use your crochet rows on the animal's head/body as a guide to make sure your pieces are perfectly aligned. Positioning the feet and tail outward helps balance the stuffie in a sitting position. Add a personal touch to your duo with an easy collar in the color of your choice and a key tag to give your new pet a name. Have another creative personalization idea? We love to see it! Make sure to post your project photos on the Yarnspirations Stitch Squad Group. You can also share your work on Instagram by tagging @Yarnspirations and using the hashtags #TunaBonesCAL22 or #YARNSPO.
