A Stitch'n Night at the Oscars

Knives out Chris Evans

Let’s roll out the red carpet and get out our yarn because it’s time for the Academy Awards! From a murder mystery to family life in the 1860s we have projects to bring the silver screen into your everyday life.

Knives Out

We saw a real surge in interest in traditional hand knit sweaters when Chris Evans graced the screen in Knives Out sporting a beautiful cable knit sweater. Here are two great patterns that can get you his look using Patons Classic Wool worsted. Make sure to choose our Aran shade to really mimic the look.

If you still want that Chris Evans flair but are interested in a more back-to-basics project, work up the crocheted Father Pullover in Red Heart Super Saver.

Ana de Armas was also sporting knitwear in Knives Out. Her scarf in bright, bold colors are sure to brighten up your wardrobe in chilly weather. Try crocheting the Granny Takes a Dip Crochet Super Scarf to get the look. Substitute the recommended shades for Gold, Red, Black, Autumn Red, and Plum Wine (1 ball each) and work 20” [51 cm] sections of each color. Mix up the colors in the fringe along both ends to finish it off.

Little Women

Not only are Saoirse Ronan and Florence Pugh both powerhouses in Little Women but Jacqueline Durran is right up there with them as the nominated costume designer of the film. Durran put together so many hand knit pieces that it’s hard to pick a favorite!

Let’s begin with a project that you can use every day. Knit up the Getting Things Done Knit Tote in Lily Sugar n Cream to bring with you while you’re out and about.

Beth’s shawl quickly became a favorite. To get a similar look, try making Marly’s Garter Stitch Shawl with Red Heart Soft in Rose Blush, Tangerine, and Chocolate.

Lastly, keep your hands warm in beautiful colorwork mittens similar to those seen in Little Women. Try our Northern Fair Isle Knit Mittens with Patons Classic Wool DK in Mocha and Latte or Gray Heather and Navy.

Frozen II

Your little one will be prepared to go Into the Unknown with these Frozen II inspired mittens. Don’t let the cold bother them on wintery days as they pretend to be Elsa or maybe even Olaf!

Honorable Mentions....

We would be remised if we didn’t also include the iconic red cardigan worn by Tom Hank as Mr Rogers in Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Meticulously reconstructed and knit by Yasemin Esmek, once again we are able to see that classic sweater on screen. A classic!

We also have to mention the stunning vintage knits worn by Scarlett Johansson in Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit. They’re beautiful short sleeved pieces with great gathered and tucked details.
