Staircase Crochet Afghan in Caron Simply Soft Tweeds


Materials

Caron Simply Soft Tweeds Yarn (141 g; 250 yds/228 m)

  1. Off White, 3 balls
  2. Color B – Gray Heather, 3 balls
  3. Color C – Taupe, 3 balls
  4. 5.5 mm Crochet Hook (H-8) or size needed to obtain gauge.

Staircase Crochet Afghan Sections


Pattern Notes: This pattern is worked in sections. You will need to mark the bottom edge of your work and the right edge of your work with a stitch marker to help you determine where to begin each pattern repeat. Refer to the assembly diagram for reference.

Color Key

  • Color A – Gray Heather
  • Color B – Off White
  • Color C – Taupe

Instructions

With color A, Ch 32.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from the hook and in each rem ch. Ch 3 (counts as st) and turn your work.

Rows 2-5: Dc in the blo of each st. Ch 3 and turn your work.

Rep row 2 three times more. Break color A and fasten on color B in the same st.

Rows 6-10:Dc in the blo of each st. Ch 3 and turn your work.

Break color B and fasten on color C in the same st.

Rows 11-15: Dc in the blo of each st. Ch 3 and turn your work.

Fasten off. Section 1 complete.

Rotate your work clockwise a quarter turn and fasten on color A on side of work.

Row 1: Evenly space 30 dc down side of work.

Rows 2-5: Dc in the blo of each st. Ch 3 and turn your work.

Rep row 2 three times more. Break color A and fasten on color B in the same st.

Rows 6-10: Dc in the blo of each st. Ch 3 and turn your work.

Break color B and fasten on color C in the same st.

Rows 11-15: Rows 11-15: Dc in the blo of each st. Ch 3 and turn your work.

Fasten off. Section 2 complete.

Rotate your work counter clockwise a quarter turn and fasten on color A in first st. Repeat rows 1-15 of the pattern repeat rotating your work after each section is complete. You will have a total of 11 sections to your staircase afghan and each section will add 30 stitches. Refer to the following diagram for guidance and stitch counts. Each number on the diagram refers to the section and each section is made up of rows 1-15 of the pattern repeat. Use the black dot on the diagram to help you determine your starting point for each section.
