Red Heart Fleece Hugs Yarn Review

Red Heart Fleece Hugs is a soft, fluffy, self-striping yarn that’s ideal for one skein baby blankets, as well as home décor items and accessories!

spooky skeins threads

Presented in convenient and ultra-popular cakes, Fleece Hugs is a medium weight chenille yarn. Chenille is created by sandwiching short “piles” between two core strings of yarn – it all gets twisted up into this gorgeousness! You can see the string if you look closely, but all you feel is the soft fuzzies.

Oh how it feels when it’s all crocheted or knitted up! Light, fluffy, soft, cuddly – it’s easy to see why this is a favorite for baby items! The long color changes keep it interesting even when super simple stitches are used, and one skein projects mean minimal ends. And it’s machine washable and dryable too!

The fuzz on this yarn makes it super squishy and cozy, but it also means you aren’t getting a whole lot of stitch definition. So, to show off this yarn to its full advantage, you’ll want to look for patterns that are made with simple stitches, or with lots of “negative space” - in other words, patterns with holes. Big bobbles might show up, but cables and texture will all blend in.

There are 12 unique colorways of Red Heart Fleece Hugs available, ranging from delicate neutrals to modern pastels, to bold and exciting brights. I loved using the Elephant colorway to design the One Ball Easy Striped Baby Blanket. it’s so pretty, and it made me think of the pink elephants from Dumbo! But I think it would look just as cute in any of the colors available.

Red Heart Fleece Hugs is a fantastic yarn, and each creation will be unique! Be sure to check out the free patterns on Yarnspirations for this yarn – there’s even a super cute Knit Fleecy Poof, perfect for any nursery… or any room of the home!
