First, this is the same pattern as the other Bernat Simple Baby Blanket which has a video. In the video he says chain 74. that's the right amount, the directions say chain 50, which is too small. Next, in row 3 it says skip sc. I don't know if skip is the right word for a beginner. If you do what it says the next sc is the one to start with (because you have already ("skipped") when you chained one. It takes some logic here. I hope that helps anyone having the problem the other reviewer was having with it getting smaller. if you were skipping, you would have it traveling in. Also, it doesn't talk about tension, which for a beginner pattern/video it should. I have strong/tight tension. This isn't a great pattern/yarn combo for that. it comes out really firm and I am feeling for the holes rather than seeing them. That's on me though, not the pattern as tension is really personal and comes with practice. Once you understand the above, its an easy pattern that will make a nice thick baby blanket. Best of luck!

I am a beginner and I have started this blanket over twice now. I don't understand direction in the pattern. The blanket keeps getting narrower and narrower.
