On the 4th row when you pick up A, if you don't joint it and just start the pattern, it leaves the end of row 3 not attached to anything. I watched the video on YouTube and tried it several times along with him and his looked just like mine. Help !

Hi. There is a note at the beginning of this pattern with should help.
Note: Work is turned after working 2 RS or WS rows. Carry colors when not in use loosely up
side of work.
At the end of the 2nd row Drop A. Turn.
3rd row is worked in color B. At the end of the 3rd row you Drop B. Do not turn.
Now go back to the beginning of that 3rd row to start the 4th row.
4th row: Pick up A. Work across the row in color A. At the end of the 4th row you will Drop A. Turn.
Color B will be there ready to pick up for the 5th row.
Continue in this manner. Good luck.

why is it that at the edges of the blanket the color b (3 dc) part seem to be flaps that are not tied down anyhow. Is this correct or are we doing something wrong?

I am not sure I understand your question? With color B you will have 3 dc in the edge st, this forms a bulky section and may not lay flat.
3rd row: (RS). Join B with sl st to first sc. Ch 3 (counts as dc). 2 dc in same sp as last sl st. ----
Hope this helps. Good luck.
