Please help! If I chain 37, then start in 3rd ch from hook, that leaves me with 35 stitches! The pattern instructions say something like that first ch 3 space counts as two hdc? In what universe? If they aren't worked, they don't exist. Should it be 37+3?

Hi. When the pattern reads --- 1st row: (RS). 1 hdc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as 2 hdc). --- these sts will become 2 dc in the 2nd row. Since you are doing a hdc in the 3rd chain, those 3 chains become a sts and the hdc becomes a sts giving you to sts.
