GAUGE

20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with smaller needles in stocking st.
24 sts and 20 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in pat.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

 

 

AFGHAN

With MC and smaller circular needle, cast on 270 sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle proceed as follows:
***Change to larger circular needle and proceed in Herringbone St as follows:
1st row: (RS). K1. *Cr2. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: *P2tog, then purl first st again slipping both sts off needle tog. Rep from * to end of row.
3rd and 4th rows: With A, as 1st and 2nd rows.
5th and 6th rows: With MC, as 1st and 2nd rows.
7th and 8th rows: With B, as 1st and 2nd rows.
9th to 16th rows: As 1st to 8th rows once.
17th to 20th rows: As 1st to 4th rows once.
21st row: With MC, as 1st row.****
**Change to smaller circular needle and proceed as follows:
1st row: (WS). Purl, dec 45 sts evenly across. 225 sts.
Work 11 rows in stocking st.
Next row: (WS). Purl, inc 45 sts evenly across. 270 sts.**
Change to larger circular needle and proceed as follows:
Next 2 rows: With B, as 1st and 2nd rows of Herringbone St.
Next 2 rows: With MC, as 1st and 2nd rows of Herringbone St.
Next 2 rows: With B, as 1st and 2nd rows of Herringbone St.
Next row:With MC, as 1st row of Herringbone St.
Rep from ** to ** once more.***
Rep from *** to *** 3 times more, then from *** to **** once.
Next row:With MC, as 2nd row of Herringbone St.
Change to smaller circular needle. Cast off knitways.
Top and Bottom Edging: With RS of work facing, smaller circular needle and MC, pick up and knit 225 sts along top or bottom edge of Afghan.
1st row: Knit.
2nd and 3rd rows: With B, knit.
4th row: With MC, knit. Cast off knitways (WS).
Side Edging: With RS of work facing, smaller circular needle and MC, pick up and knit 285 sts evenly along side edge of Afghan. Work as given for Top and Bottom Edging.

PILLOW
BACK AND FRONT (make alike).
With MC and smaller needles, cast on 100 sts.
**Change to larger needles and proceed in Herringbone St as follows:
1st row: (RS). K1. *Cr2. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: *P2tog, then purl first st again slipping both sts off needle tog. Rep from * to end of row.
3rd and 4th rows: As 1st and 2nd rows.
5th and 6th rows: With A, as 1st and 2nd rows.
7th and 8th rows: With MC, as 1st and 2nd rows.
9th and 10th rows: With B, as 1st and 2nd rows.
11th to 18th rows: As 3rd to 10th rows once.
19th to 22nd rows: As 3rd to 6th rows once.
23rd to 38th rows: With MC, as 1st and 2nd rows 8 times.
39th and 40th rows: With B, as 1st and 2nd rows.
41st to 56th rows:With MC, as 1st and 2nd rows 8 times.
57th to 74th rows: As 5th to 22nd rows.
75th and 76th rows: With MC, as 1st and 2nd rows.
77th row: With MC, as 1st row.
Change to smaller needles. Cast off purlways.
Sew Front and Back tog leaving one side open to insert pillow form. Insert pillow form. Sew opening closed.
