Contrast B () 2
Sizes 5 mm (U.S. 8) and 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) circular knitting needles 36 ins [90 cm] long or size needed to obtain tension.

GAUGE

19 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with smaller needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

With smaller needle and MC, cast on 281 sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle proceed as follows:

1st row: (WS). Knit.
2nd row: K1. M1. *K12. Sl1. K2tog. psso. K12. (K1. yfwd. K1) all in same st. Rep from * 8 times more. K12. Sl1. K2tog. psso. K12. M1. K1.
3rd to 10th rows: Rep last 2 rows 4 times more.
11th row: Purl.
12th row: As 2nd row.
13th row: Purl.
14th row: With A, as 2nd row.
15th row: Knit.
16th and 17th rows: Rep last two rows once more. Break A.
18th row: With MC, as 2nd row.
19th row: Purl.
20th and 21st rows: Rep last two rows once more.
22nd to 29th rows: As 14th to 21st rows substituting B for A.
30th row: With MC, as 2nd row.
31st row: Knit.
Change to larger needle.
32nd row: With MC, K1. M1. *(With A, K1. With MC, K1) 6 times. Sl1. With A, K2tog. psso. (With MC, K1. With A, K1) 6 times**. (With MC, K1. yfwd. K1) all in same st. Rep from * 8 times more, then from * to ** once more.
With MC, M1. K1. Break A.
33rd row:With MC, knit.
34th row: As 32nd row, substituting B for A.
35th row: With MC, knit.
36th row: As 32nd row.
Change to smaller needle.
37th row: With MC, knit.
38th row: As 2nd row.
39th row: With MC, knit.
40th row: As 2nd row.
41st row: Purl.
42nd and 43rd rows: Rep last 2 rows once more.
44th to 71st rows: As 30th to 43rd rows twice more.
72nd to 79th rows: As 22nd to 29th rows.
80th to 87th rows: As 14th to 21st rows.
88th row: As 2nd row.
Rep 1st to 88th rows 3 times more, then 1st to 10th rows once ending with WS facing for next row. Cast off knitways.
Side edging: With RS of Throw facing, MC and smaller needles, pick up and knit 288 sts along side edge.
Knit 4 rows (garter st), ending with WS facing for next row. Cast off knitways.
Rep along apposite side edge.
