20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).
Note: When working in colors, wind small balls of the colors to be used, one for each separate area of color in the design. Start new colors at appropriate points. To change colors, twist the two colors arnd each other where they meet, on WS, to avoid a hole.

BACK
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 96 (106-116-126-136) sts.
**1st and 2nd rows: With MC, knit.
3rd and 4th rows: With A, knit.
5th and 6th rows: With MC, knit, ending with RS facing for next row. **
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
With MC, work in stocking st until work from beginning measures 26½ (27-27½-28-28½) ins [67.5 (68.5-70-71-72.5) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Shoulder shaping: Cast off 9 (12- 12-14-16) sts beg next 4 rows, then 11 (10-14-14-14) sts beg following 2 rows. Leave rem 38 (38-40-42-44) sts on a st holder.

LEFT FRONT
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 48 (53-58-63-68) sts.
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS) With MC, K33 (38- 43-48-53) sts. With A, K3. With MC, K3. With A, K5. With MC, knit to end of row.
2nd row: With MC, P4. With A, P5. With MC, P3. With A, P3. With MC, purl to end of row.
3rd row: As 1st row.
4th row: With MC, P4. With A, K5. With MC, P3. With A, K3. With MC, purl to end of row.
Rep these 4 rows until work from beginning measures 23½ (24-24½- 24½-25) ins [59.5 (61-62-62-63.5) cm], ending with WS facing for next row.
Neck shaping: Next row: Cast off 5 sts (neck edge), pat to end of row.

Cont even until work from beg measures 19¾ (20¼-20¼-21½- 21¾) ins [50 (51.5-52.5-54.5-55) cm] ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

POCKET (make 1).
With larger needles and MC, cast on 30 sts.
Work in stocking st until pocket measures 5 ins [12.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Change to smaller needles and work from ** to ** as given for Back. Cast off.

FINISHING
Pin pieces to measurements and cover with a damp cloth leaving to dry on garment.
Front Edging: With RS of work facing, smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 117 (120-122- 122-125) sts up right front edge.
Knit 2 rows. Cast off knitwise (WS).
Rep for Left Front edge.
Neck Edging: With RS of work facing, smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 19 (19-20-22- 22) sts up Left Front neck edge. Knit across 38 (38-40-42-44) sts from back neck st holder, dec 3 sts evenly across. Pick up and knit 19 (19-20-22-22) sts down right front neck edge. 73 (73-77-83-85) sts.
Next row: (WS). With MC, knit.
Next 2 rows: With A, knit.
Next row: With MC, knit. Cast off knitwise (WS).
Pin pocket in position on Left Front 2 ins [5 cm] from bottom edge, 5 ins [12.5 cm] from side edge and sew in position. Sew zipper in position under front edging.
Place markers on front and back side edges 9½ (10-10½- 10½-11) ins [24 (25.5-26.5-26.5- 28) cm] down from shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves between markers. Sew side and sleeve seams.

HAT
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 116 sts.
Work from ** to ** as given for Back, dec 2 sts evenly across last row. 114 sts.
Change to larger needles and work in stocking st for 4¼ ins [11 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape top: 1st row: K1. *Sl1K. K1. psso. K10. K2tog. Rep from * 7 times more. K1. 98 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Knit.
3rd row: K1. *Sl1K. K1. psso. K8. K2tog. Rep from * 7 times more. K1. 82 sts.
5th row: K1. *Sl1K. K1. psso. K6. K2tog. Rep from * 7 times more. K1. 66 sts.
Cont in this manner, dec 16 sts evenly across next and following alt rows until there are 18 sts.
Break yarn leaving a long end.
Draw end through rem sts and fasten securely. Sew center back seam.
