MEASUREMENTS

MATERIALS

Shetland Chunky (100 g/3.5 oz;136 m/148 yds)
Contrast A Taupe (78022) 1
Sizes 6 mm (U.S. 10) and 10 mm (U.S. 15) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. 2 stitch holders.
Theo (100 g/3.5 oz;35 m/39 yds)
Contrast B Champagne Bubbles (86008) 1

GAUGE

15 sts and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm] with smaller needles and Contrast a in stocking st.
5 1/2 sts and 14 rows = 4" [10 cm] with larger needles and Contrast B in garter st.

INSTRUCTIONS

Ear Flaps (make 2)
With smaller needles and a, cast on 9 sts.
1st row: (RS). *K1tbl. p1. rep from * to last st. K1tbl.
2nd row: Purl.
These 2 rows form Texture pat.
Cont in Texture pat, inc1 at each end of every row until there are 17 sts, taking inc sts into pat.

Cont even in Texture pat until work from beg measures 4" [10 cm], ending on a WS row. Do not cast off. Break yarn. Leave sts on a st holder.

Body of Hat
Joining row:
(RS). With smaller needles and a, cast on 7 sts. pat across 17 sts of first ear Flap. Cast on 25 sts. pat across 17 sts of second ear Flap. Cast on 7 sts. 73 sts.
1st row: (WS). Purl.
2nd row: P1. *K1tbl. p1. rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows for Texture pat until work from joining row measures 7" [18.5 cm], ending on a WS row.

Shape top: 1st row: (RS). Pp1. *K1tbl. p1. K1tbl. P3tog. Rep from * to end of row. 49 sts.
2nd to 4th rows: Work even in Texture pat.
5th row: (RS). p1. *K1tbl. p3tog. rep from * to end of row. 25 sts.
6th row: purl.
7th row: p1. *K1tbl. p3tog. rep from * to end of row. 13 sts.
Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end through rem sts and fasten securely.
Sew center back seam.

Ear Flap Liner (make 2) With larger needles and B, cast on 3 sts.
Work in garter st (knit every row), inc1 at each end of every row until there are 7 sts and noting 1st row is WS.
Cont even in garter st until work from beg measures 4" [10 cm], ending on a rS row. Cast off.

Front Flap
With larger needles and B, cast on 12 sts. Work in garter st (knit every row) noting first row is rS until work from beg measures 4" [10 cm], ending on a WS row.
Cast off.

FINISHING
With WS facing each other, sew ear Flap Liners to inside of earflaps. Sew Front Flap to front edge of Hat between ear Flaps.
