Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles. Set of four size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Black and orange embroidery floss.


20 sts and 26 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st.


Note: When working from chart, wind small balls of the colors to be used, one for each separate area of color in the design. When changing colors, wind 2 colors around each other where they meet, on WS, to avoid a hole.

Front and Back (make 2 alike)
With pair of needles and MC, cast on 45 sts.
1st to 6th rows: *K1. P1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
7th row: (RS). K1. Inc1. Knit to last 2 sts. Inc1. K1. 47 sts.
8th row: Purl.
9th row: K23. Inc1. K23. 48 sts.
10th to 14th rows: Beg with a purl row, work even in stocking st.

Work Chart in stocking st to end of chart, reading knit rows from right to left and purl rows from left to right, noting 15-st rep will be worked 3 times. Break A.
Next row: With MC, purl.

Shape top: 1st row: (RS). K1. K2tog. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 46 sts.
2nd row: P1. P2tog. Purl to last 3 sts. P2togtbl. P1. 44 sts.
3rd and 4th rows: As 1st and 2nd rows. 40 sts at end of 4th row.
5th row: K2tog. *P1. K1. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2tog. 38 sts.
6th row: K2tog. * P1. K1. Rep from * last 2 sts. P2tog. 36 sts.
7th and 8th rows: As 5th and 6th rows. 32 sts at end of 8th row.
9th row: Knit.
10th and alt rows: Purl.
11th row: K1. *K2tog. K5. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1. 27 sts.
13th row: K1. *K2tog. K4. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2tog. 22 sts.
15th row: *K2tog. K3. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2tog. 17 sts.
17th row: K1. *K2tog. K2. Rep from * to end of row. 13 sts.
19th row: K1. *K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 7 sts.
21st row: K1. (K2tog) 3 times. 4 sts. Break yarn. Leave rem sts on a safety pin.
With orange embroidery floss, embroider beak using straight stitch.
With black embroidery floss, embroider wings and legs using stem stitch. Embroider eyes using French knots.

Sew side seams, leaving openings for handle and spout.
Top Tab: Divide rem 8 sts on 3 double-pointed needles. Join in rnd,placing a marker on first st.
With A, knit 6 rnds. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end through 1 rem sts and fasten securely.
