Sizes 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) and 5 mm (U.S. 8) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. 2 st holders.

GAUGE

18 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st with 5 mm needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

Stripe Pat:Work 4 rows of each color in following sequence: MC, A, B, C, D, E, F. These 28 rows form Stripe Pat.
Back
**With MC and smaller needles, cast on 83 (93-101-111-131-149) sts.
Proceed in Stripe Pat, work in (K1. P1) ribbing for 4 ins [10 cm], ending with a WS row.
Change to larger needles and keeping cont of Stripe Pat, proceed in stocking st for 16 ins [40.5 cm] total length, ending with a purl row.
Armhole shaping:Cast off 5 (6-7-8-10-12) sts beg next 2 rows. 73 (81-87-95-111-125) sts.**
Cont even in Stripe Pat for (9--10-11-11½) ins [21.5 (23-24-25.5-28-29) cm], ending with a purl row.
Shoulders:Cast off 20 (23-25-28-36-42) sts beg next 2 rows. Leave rem 33 (35-37-39-39-41) sts on a st holder.
Front
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
Cont even in Stripe Pat for (6--7-8-) ins [14 (15-16.5-18-20.5-21.5) cm], ending with a purl row.
Neck shaping: Next row:K25 (28-30-33-41-47). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows then every following alt row twice. 20 (23-25-28-36-42) sts.
Cont even in Stripe Pat for the same length as Back to shoulder. Cast off.
With RS of work facing, slip next 23 (25-27-29-29-31) sts on a st holder. Join appropriate color to rem sts and knit to end of row.
Work as given for right front reversing all shapings.
Sleeves
With MC and smaller needles, cast on 37 (37-39-39-41-41) sts.
Proceed in Stripe Pat, work in (K1. P1) ribbing for 4 ins [10 cm], ending with a WS row.
Change to larger needles and keeping cont of Stripe Pat, proceed in stocking st, inc 1 st each end of next and every following alt row to 43 (47-53-69-83-91) sts, then every following 4th row to 77 (81-85-91-99-103) sts.
Cont even for 19 ins [48 cm] from beg, ending with a purl row.
Shape top:Cast off 6 sts beg next 8 rows. Cast off rem 29 (33-37-43-51-55) sts.
Finishing
Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.
Collar:Sew left shoulder seam. With RS of work facing, MC and smaller needles, pick up and knit 94 (98-102-106-106-110) sts evenly along neck edge. Proceed in Stripe Pat, work in (K1. P1) ribbing for 4 ins [10 cm]. Cast off in rib.
Sew right shoulder seam. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
