Size 5.5 mm (U.S. 9) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Tapestry needle.

GAUGE

14 sts and 17 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

Make 2 pieces alike.
Cast on 42 (48-54) sts.
Work 3 rows in garter st (knit every row), noting that first row is WS.
Next row: (RS). Knit.
Next row: K3. Purl to last 3 sts. K3.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 51 ins [129.5 cm], ending with a WS row.
Work 3 rows in garter st.
Cast off knitwise (WS).
Finishing
Place markers along side edges 24 ins [61 cm] from cast off edges. Starting at cast off edge, sew side edges tog to markers for center back seam (see Diagram). Leave balance open for Fronts.
