Sizes 3.75 mm (U.S. 5) and 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles. Size 3.75 mm (U.S. 5) circular needle 90 cm long or size needed to obtain tension. 1 st holder. 3 fasteners.

GAUGE

21 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in fair isle pat.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).
Note: When working from chart, carry yarn not in use loosely across WS of work but never over more than 5 sts. When it must pass over more than 5 sts, weave it over and under color in use on next st or at centre point of sts it passes over. The colors are never twisted around one another.

BACK
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 105 (113-121) sts.
**Work 2 rows stocking st, beg with a knit row.
Next row: (RS). With G, knit.
Next row: With G, knit (fold line).
With MC, beg with a knit row, work 4 rows stocking st.**
Change to larger needles and work Chart I in stocking st until row 106 of chart is complete, reading knit rows from right to left and purl rows from left to right. **
Armhole shaping: Next row: Keeping cont of chart, cast off 5 (6-7) sts beg next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following 2 (4-6) alt rows. 89 (91- 93) sts.
Cont working Chart I in stocking st until row 156 (158-160) of chart is complete.
Shoulder shaping: Cast off 9 sts beg next 4 rows, then 8 (9-10) sts beg following 2 rows. Leave rem 37 sts on a st holder.

LEFT FRONT
***With smaller needles and MC, cast on 50 (54-58) sts.
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.***
Change to larger needles and work Chart I in stocking st until row 106 of Chart I is complete.
Armhole and front shaping: Next row:
Keeping cont of chart, cast off 5 (6-7) sts. Pat to end of row.
Work 1 row even from chart.
Next row: Work 2tog. Pat to last 2 sts. Work 2tog (front edge).
Work 1 row even.
Rep last 2 rows 2 (4-6) times more. 39 (38- 38) sts.

Sizes S and M only: Keeping cont of chart, dec 1 st at front edge only on next and following alt rows 3 (1) time(s) more. 35 (36) sts.

All sizes: Keeping cont of chart, dec 1 st at front edge only on following 4th rows from previous dec until there are 26 (27- 28) sts.

RIGHT FRONT

Pat to end of row.
Next row: Work 2tog (front edge). Pat to last 2 sts. Work 2tog.
Work 1 row even.
Rep last 2 rows 2 (4-6) times more. 39 (38- 38) sts.

Sizes S and M only: Keeping cont of chart, dec 1 st at front edge only on next and following alt rows 3 (1) time(s) more. 35 (36) sts.

All sizes: Keeping cont of chart, dec 1 st at front edge only on following 4th rows from previous dec until there are 26 (27- 28) sts.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with damp cloth leaving to dry.
Armbands: Sew shoulder seams. With right side of work facing, smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 95 (102-105) sts evenly along armhole edge.
*Beg with a purl row, work 5 rows stocking st.
Next row: With G, knit.
Next row: With G, knit (fold line).
With MC, beg with a knit row, work 5 rows stocking st. Cast off.*
Sew side seams. Turn lower and armbands edges to WS along fold lines and sew in position.
Neck and Front Band: With RS of work facing, circular needle and MC, pick up and knit 85 (85-88) sts up right front edge to first front dec and 52 (55-58) sts up right front neck edge to shoulder. Knit across 37 sts from back st holder. Pick up and knit 52 (55-58) sts down left front neck edge to first front dec and 85 (85-88) sts down left front edge. 311 (317-329) sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle, work from * to * as given for Armbands.
Turn to WS along fold line and sew in position. Sew fasteners in position as illustrated.
