Sizes 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) and 5 mm (U.S. 8) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. 4 st holders.

GAUGE

18 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. For ease in working, circle all numbers pertaining to your size.
Note:When working from charts, carry yarn not in use loosely across WS, but never over more than 5 sts. When it must pass over more than 5 sts, weave it over and under color in use on next st or at center point of sts it passes over. The colors are never twisted around one another.
Back
**With smaller needles and MC, cast on 82 (94-102-110-130-150) sts.
1st row:(RS). K2. *P2. K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row:P2. *K2. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows for 3 ins [7.5 cm], ending with 2nd row and inc 1 (dec 1-dec 1-inc 1-inc 1-dec 1) st at center of last row. 83 (93-101-111-131-149) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st for 1 (1-2-3-5-) ins [2.5 (2.5-5-7.5-12.5-16.5) cm], ending with a purl row.
Work Chart IX in stocking st, reading knit rows from right to left and purl rows from left to right.
Cont in Chart IX until row 42 of chart has been completed.
Chart IX is shown on pages 50 and 51.
Shape raglans:Keeping cont of Chart IX, cast off 5 (6-7-9-11-15) sts beg of next 2 rows. 73 (81-87-93-109-119) sts.
Cont in chart, noting raglan decs on 3rd and every following 4th row 3 (3-3-0-0-0) times, then every following alt row 4 (4-4-10-10-10) times more. 57 (65-71-71-87-97) sts.**
With MC, cont in stocking st, dec 1 st at each end of needle on every following alt row from previous dec to 35 (41-47-39-57-65) sts.
Sizes M, L, 2/3XL and 4/5XL only:Dec 1 st at each end of needle on next (3-5-9-13) rows.
All sizes:Leave rem 35 (35-37-39-39-39) sts on a st holder.
Front
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.
With MC, cont in stocking st, dec 1 st at each end of needle on every following alt row from previous dec to 55 (61-65-61-75-79) sts, ending with a purl row.
Shape neck: 1st row:Work 2tog. K15 (18-19-16-23-25). K2tog. Turn.
Leave rem sts on a spare needle. 17 (20-21-18-25-27) sts rem.
2nd row: P2tog. Purl to end of row.
3rd row:Work 2tog. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
4th row:Purl.

All sizes:Work 5 (3-3-1-1-1) row(s) even.
Work Chart X in stocking st, reading knit rows from right to left and purl rows from left to right and noting side incs on 3rd and every following 8th (6th-6th-4th-4th-4th) row 4 (6-6-9-9-9) times more. 63 (67-71-81-91-99) sts.
Cont in Chart X until row 42 of chart has been completed.
Chart X is shown on pages 52 and 53.
Shape raglans:Keeping cont of Chart X, cast off 5 (6-7-9-11-15) sts beg of next 2 rows. 53 (55-57-63-69-69) sts.
Cont in chart, noting raglan decs on 3rd and every following 4th row 1 (1-1-1-1-3) time(s) more, then every following alt row 8 (8-8-8-8-4) times. 33 (35-37-43-49-53) sts.
With MC, cont in stocking st, dec 1 st at each end of needle on next and every following alt row to 9 sts, ending with a purl row. Leave rem sts on a st holder.
Finishing
Pin garment pieces to measurements.
Cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.
Sew raglan seams, leaving back left raglan open.
Collar:With RS of work facing, smaller needles and MC, K9 from left sleeve st holder. Pick up and knit 16 sts down left front neck edge. K17 (17-19-21-21-21) from front st holder, dec 1 st at center.
Pick up and knit 16 sts up right front neck edge. K9 from right sleeve st holder. K35 (35-37-39-39-39) from back st holder. 102 (102-106-110-110-110) sts.
Beg with a 2nd row, work in (K2. P2) ribbing as given for Back for 3 ins [7.5 cm]. Change to larger needles and cont in (K2. P2) ribbing for 4 ins [10 cm] more. Cast off in ribbing, sew back raglan and collar seam.
