Sizes 4 mm (U.S. 6) and 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. 3 stitch holders. Metal clasp fastener.

GAUGE

20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

 

 

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).

BACK
With A and smaller needles, cast on 92 (100-110-118) sts.
Work 3 rows stocking st.
Next row: ( WS). Knit (fold line). Beg with a knit row, work 3 rows stocking st. Break A.
Change to MC and larger needles and proceed as follows:
Next 3 rows: Purl.
Cont in stocking st until work from fold line measures 11 (11-12½-13) ins [28 (28-32-33) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Armhole shaping: Cast off 5 (7-8-9) sts beg next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following 5 (6-8- 10) alt rows. 70 (72-76-78) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures 7½ (8-8-) ins [19 (20.5-20.5-21.5) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Neck shaping: Next row: K23 (23- 25-25) (neck edge). Tu r n . Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows. 19 (19-21-21) sts.
Work 1 row even, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.
With RS of work facing slip next 24 (26-26-28) sts from spare needle onto a st holder. Join yarn to rem sts and knit to end of row.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows. 19 (19-21-21) sts.
Work 1 row even, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

POCKET LININGS (Make 2)
With MC and larger needles, cast on 15 sts.
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: Inc 1 st in first st purlways. Purl to last 2 sts. Inc 1 st in next st purlways. P1.
3rd row: Inc 1 st in first st knitways. Knit to last 2 sts. Inc 1 st in next st knitways. K1.
Rep last 2 rows once more.
6th row: Purl.
7th row: As 3rd row.
Rep last 2 rows once more. 27 sts.
Work a further 15 rows even in stocking st, ending with WS facing for next row. Leave these sts on a spare needle.

LEFT FRONT
**With A and smaller needles, cast on 45 (49-54-58) sts.
Work 3 rows stocking st.
Next r ow: (WS). Knit (fold line).
Beg with a knit row, work 3 rows stocking st. Break A.
Change to MC and larger needles and proceed as follows:
Next 3 rows: Purl.
Cont in stocking st until work from fold line measures 4½ ins [11.5 cm] ending with WS facing for next row.**
Next row: P10 (12-15-17). K27. Purl to end of row.
Pocket placement: Next row: K8 (10-12-14). Slip next 27 sts onto a st holder. Knit across 27 sts from pocket lining. Knit to end of row.
Cont in stocking st until work from fold line measures same length as Back to armholes ending with RS facing for next row.
Armhole shaping: Cast off 5 (7-8-9) sts beg next row.
Work 1 row even.

FINISHING
Neckband
: Sew shoulder seams. With RS of work facing, A and smaller needles, pick up and K26 (28-28-30) up right front neck edge and 5 sts down right back neck edge. K24 (26-26-28) sts from back st holder dec 2 sts evenly across. Pick up and K5 up left back neck edge and 26 (28-28-30) sts down left front neck edge. 84 (90-90-96) sts.
Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows stocking st.
Next row: (RS). Purl (fold line).
Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows stocking st. Cast off.
Front Edging: With RS of work facing, A and smaller needles, pick up and knit 87 (89-97-99) sts evenly along front edge between fold line of lower edge and fold line of neckband.
Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows stocking st.
Next row: (RS). Purl (fold line).
Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows stocking st. Cast off.
Armbands: With RS of work facing, A and smaller needles, pick up and knit 93 (97-97-101) sts evenly along armhole edge.
Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows stocking st.
Next row: (RS). Purl (fold line).
Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows stocking st. Cast off.
Pocket Borders: With RS of work facing A and smaller needles, knit across 27 sts from pocket st holder.
Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows stocking st.
Next row: (RS). Purl (fold line).
Beg with a purl row, work 3 rows stocking st. Cast off.
Sew side seams. Turn all edges to WS along fold lines and sew in position.
Sew sides of pocket borders in position to right side and pocket linings in position on wrong side. Sew fastener in position. Pin to measurements and cover with a damp cloth leaving to dry on garment.
