BACK
With MC and smaller needles, cast on 31 (35-37-41-49-55) sts.
Work 7 rows in garter st (knit every row), noting first row is WS.
Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows:
1st row: (RS).With A, knit.
2nd row: With A, knit.
3rd row: With MC, K1. *K1B. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
4th row: With MC, knit.
5th row: With A, K2. *K1B. K1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
6th row: With A, knit.
Rep 3rd to 6th rows for pat until work from beg measures 11½ (11½-11½-12- 12½-13) ins [29 (29-29-30.5-32-33) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

All sizes: Cont even in pat until work from beg measures 18½ ins [47 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape top: Keeping cont of pat, cast off 2 sts beg next 2 rows. 21 (23-25-27-29-29) sts.
Dec 1 st at each end of needle on next and every following 4th row to 13 (15-17-17- 19-21) sts, then every following alt row to 5 (5-5-7-7-7) sts. Cast off.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Buttonhole band: With RS facing, MC and smaller needles, pick up and knit 35 (35-38-38-41-41) sts evenly along right front edge.
Knit 3 rows.
Next row: (Buttonhole row). (RS). K4. *yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso. K7 (7-8-8-9-9). Rep from * twice more. yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso. K2.
Knit 2 rows. Cast off loosely knitwise (WS).
Button band: Work as for buttonhole band along left front edge omitting all reference to buttonholes.
Neckband: With RS facing, MC and smaller needles, pick up and knit 5 sts across side of buttonhole band, K2 (2-3-4-4-5) from right front safety pin.
Pick up and knit 8 sts up right front neck edge. K11 (13-13-15-15-17) from back st holder. Pick up and knit 8 sts down left front neck edge. K2 (2-3- 4-4-5) from left front safety pin. Pick up and knit 5 sts across side of button band. 41 (43-45-49-49-53) sts.
Knit 3 rows.
Next row: (Buttonhole row). (RS). K3. yfwd. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to end of row.
Knit 2 rows. Cast off loosely knitwise (WS).
Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
