MATERIALS

Classic Wool Worsted (100 g/3.5 oz;192 m/210 yds)
Contrast A Seafoam (77219) 1
Contrast B New Denim (77115) 1
Sizes 3.75 mm (U.S. 5) and 4 mm (U.S. 6) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. Cable needle. Stitch holder.

GAUGE

22 sts and 28 rows = 4" [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

RIGHT MITTEN
**With A and smaller needles, cast on 42 sts.
1st row: K1. *K2. P2. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: P1. *K2. P2. Rep from * to last st. P1.
Rep last 2 rows of (K2. P2) ribbing for 3" [7.5 cm], ending on a 2nd row and inc 6 sts evenly across last row. Break A. 48 sts.**

Change to larger needles and with B, proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). K5. P2. K2. C4F. P2. K33.
2nd row: P33. K2. P6. K2. P5.
3rd row: K5. P2. C4B. K2. P2. K33.
4th row: As 2nd row.
5th and 6th rows: As 1st and 2nd rows.

Shape thumb gusset: 1st row: (RS). K5. P2. C4B. K2. P2. K13. Inc 1 in each of next 2 sts. Knit to end of row. 50 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.
3rd row: K5. P2. K2. C4F. P2. K13. Inc1 in next st. K2. Inc1 in next st. Knit to end of row. 52 sts.
5th row: K5. P2. C4B. K2. P2. K13. Inc1 in next st. K4. Inc1 in next st. Knit to end of row. 54 sts.
7th row: K5. P2. K2. C4F. P2. K13. Inc1 in next st. K6. Inc1 in next st. Knit to end of row. 56 sts.
9th row: K5. P2. C4B. K2. P2. K13. Inc1 in next st. K8. Inc1 in next st. Knit to end of row. 58 sts.

13th row: K5. P2. C4B. K2. P2. K27. Turn. Slip rem sts onto st holder.

***Thumb: Next row: P16. turn.
Work across these 16 sts in stocking st until Thumb measures 2 1/4" [5.5 cm], ending with a purl row.
Next row: (K2. K2tog) 4 times. 12 sts.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: (K1. K2tog) 4 times. 8 sts.
Break yarn, leaving a long end. Thread end through rem 8 sts. Draw up and fasten securely. Sew Thumb seam.***

With RS facing, join B to rem sts on st holder and knit to end of row.
1st row: (WS). P18. Pick up 2 sts purlwise at base of Thumb. P13 (including picked up sts). K2. P6. K2. P5. 48 sts.
2nd row: K5. P2. K2. C4F. P2. K33.
3rd row: P33. K2. P6. K2. P5.
4th row: K5. P2. C4B. K2. P2. K33.
5th row: As 3rd row.
Rep 2nd to 5th rows until work after ribbing measures 6" [15 cm], ending with a 3rd or 5th row.
Break B.
