GAUGE

8 sts and 14 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with smaller needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. For ease in working, circle all numbers pertaining to your size.

Note: When working in Stripe Pat, do not break yarn at ends of rows except where necessary for shaping. Carry colors not in use loosely up sides of work.

BACK
**With smaller needles and MC, cast on 39 (43-47-52-60-68) sts.
1st row:With MC, knit.
2nd row:With A, purl.
3rd row:With B, knit.
4th row:With MC, purl.
5th row:With A, knit.
6th row:With B, purl.
Last 6 rows form Stripe Pat.
Cont in Stripe Pat until work from beg measures 15 ins [38 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape armholes: Cast off 2 (2-2-2-3-3) sts beg next 4 (4-6-8-8-10) rows. 31 (35-35- 36-36-38) sts.**
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 8 (-9--10½-11½) ins [20.5 (21.5-23- 24-26.5-29) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape shoulders: Cast off 8 (9-9-9-9-10) sts loosely beg next 2 rows. Leave rem 15 (17-17-18-18-18) sts on a st holder.

FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back, beg armhole shaping on same row of Stripe Pat as Back.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures 4½ (5-5½--6½-) ins [11.5 (12.5- 14-14-16.5-19) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.

Shape neck: Next row: K11 (12-12-12- 12-13). K2tog (neck edge). Turn. Leave rem sts on a spare needle.
Next row: Purl.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next and every following alt row 3 times more. 8 (9-9-9-9- 10) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back to shoulder, ending on same row of Stripe Pat as Back. Cast off loosely.
With RS of work facing, slip next 5 (7-7- 8-8-8) sts onto a st holder. Rejoin appropriate color to rem sts. Sl1. K1. psso. Knit to end of row. 12 (13-13-13-13-14) sts.
Next row: Purl.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next and every following alt row 3 times more. 8 (8-9-9-9- 10) sts.
Cont even in pat until armhole measures same length as Back to shoulder, ending on same row of Stripe Pat as Back. Cast off loosely.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles and MC, cast on 20 (20-20-24-24-24) sts.
Proceed in Stripe Pat as given for Back, inc 1 st at each end of needle on 5th and every following 8th (6th-6th-6th-4th-4th) row to 28 (30-32-30-34-42) sts, then every following 10th (8th-8th-8th-6th-6th) row to 32 (34-36-38-42-46) sts.
Cont even in pat until work from beg measures 17 (17-17½-17½-18-18½) ins [43 (43-44.5-44.5-45.5-47) cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Place markers at each end of last row.
Shape top: Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and every following 4th (4th-4th-4th- 6th-6th) row 1 (1-1-2-1-2) time(s), then every following alt (alt-alt-alt-4th-4th) row 1 (1-2-2-3-3) time(s).
Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 26 (28-28- 28-32-34) sts loosely (RS).

FINISHING
Sew right shoulder seam.
Collar: With RS of work facing, smaller needles and MC, pick up and knit 9 (9-9- 11-11-11) sts down left front neck edge. K5 (7-7-8-8-8) from front st holder. Pick up and knit 9 (9-9-11-11-11) sts up right front neck edge. K15 (17-17-18-18-18) from back st holder, dec 1 st at center. 37 (41-41-47-47-47) sts.
1st row: (RS). With MC, K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row:With A, purl.
3rd row: With B, K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
4th row:With MC, purl.
5th row: With A, K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
6th row:With B, purl.
Last 6 rows form Striped Rib Pat.
Cont in Striped Rib Pat until work from pick up row measures 4 ins [10 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Change to larger needles and cont in pat until work from pick up row measures 10 ins [25.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off loosely in pat.
Sew left shoulder and collar seam, reversing seam for last 6 ins [15 cm] for turn back. Sew in sleeves, placing rows above markers on sleeve against cast off sts of armhole to form angled armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams.
