GAUGE

20½ sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needle in rib pat.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

With MC and smaller needle, cast on 220 sts. Do not join. Working back and forth across needle, knit 5 rows (garter st), noting that 1st row is WS and inc 30 sts evenly across last row. 250 sts.

Change to larger needle and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). K1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd and 3rd rows: As 1st row.
4th row: K1. *P1. PW. Rep from * to last st. K1.
5th row: With A, K1. *yb. Sl1P (dropping extra loop). K1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
6th row: K1. *P1. yf. Sl1P. Rep from * to last st. K1.
7th row: K1. *KW. K1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
8th row: With B, K1. *P1. yf. Sl1P (dropping extra loop). Rep from * to last st. K1.
9th row: With B, K1. *yb. Sl1P. K1.
Rep from * to last st. K1.
10th row: With B, as 4th row.
11th to 13th rows: With C, as 5th to 7th rows.
14th to 16th rows: With D, as 8th to 10th rows.
17th to 19th rows: With C, as 5th to 7th rows.

45th to 60th rows: As 37th to 44th rows twice more.
Rep last 60 rows 4 times more, then 1st to 32nd rows once more, ending with RS facing for next row.
Change to smaller needle and knit 5 rows, dec 30 sts evenly across first row. 220 sts. Cast off knitways (WS).
Side edging: With RS of work facing, smaller needle and MC, pick up and knit 234 sts along side edge of Afghan.
Knit 4 rows. Cast off knitways (WS).
Fringe: Cut 16 ins [40.5 cm] lengths of yarn in all colors. Taking 7 strands tog for each fringe knot into fringe across cast on and cast off edges in the following sequence: A, B, C, D, MC.
Trim fringe evenly.
