GAUGE

22 sts and 28 rows = 4" [10 cm] in stocking st with larger needles.
24 sts and 26 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Fair Isle Pat with larger needles.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). Numbers for each size are shown in the same color throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it applies to all sizes.

Note: When working from charts, carry colors not in use loosely across WS of work. The colors are never twisted around one another.

BACK
With MC and larger needles, cast on 114 (122- 134-142-162-182) sts.
1st row: (RS). *K2. P2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
2nd row: *P2. K2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2.
Rep last 2 rows (K2. P2) ribbing until work from beg measures 2½" [6 cm], ending with a 2nd row.

Work 2 rows stocking st, inc 9 (13-13-17-17-17) sts evenly across last row. 123 (135-147-159- 179-199) sts.

Work Chart I in stocking st to end of chart reading knit rows from right to left and purl rows from left to right, noting 12-st rep will be worked 9 (10-11-12-14-15) times and side decs will be worked on 13th and 27th rows. 119 (131-143- 155-175-195) sts. Chart I is shown on page 4.

Button and Buttonhole Band: With RS facing, MC and circular needle, pick up and knit 112 sts up Right Front edge to fi rst front neck dec and 43 (45-46-46-50-54) sts up Right Front neck edge. K38 (38-40-40-44-44) from Back st holder dec 2 sts evenly across. Pick up and knit 43 (45- 46-46-50-54) sts down Left Front neck edge to fi rst front neck dec and 112 sts down Left Front edge to cast on edge. 346 (350-354-354-366- 374) sts.
1st row: (WS). *P2. K2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P2.
2nd row: *K2. P2. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
3rd row: As 1st row.
4th row: K2. *Cast off 2 sts. Rib across 19 sts (including st on needle after cast off ). Rep from * 3 times more. Cast off 2 sts. Rib to end of row. (5 buttonholes).
5th row: Rib, casting on 2 sts over cast off sts.
6th row: As 2nd row.
7th row: As 1st row.
Cast off in ribbing.

Sew side and sleeve seams, taking care to match Fair Isle Pat. Sew in sleeves, taking care to match Fair Isle Pat.
Sew on buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
