Dramatic long jacket with wide sleeves and built-in scarf is worked with two strands of yarn together. Sizes S-3XL (32-58"/81-147.5 cm bust). Made in Patons Shetland Chunky and Patons Divine. 10mm (US 15) needles.

GAUGE

9 sts and 13 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st with 2 strands of yarn held tog.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).
Note: The coat is worked with 2 strands of yarn throughout.

BACK
With pair of needles and one strand each of A and B, cast on 44 (48-54- 58-62-66-70) sts.
**Work 7 rows in garter st (knit every row), noting 1st row is WS.
Next row: (RS). Knit.
Next row: K3. Purl to last 3 sts. K3.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 7½ ins [19 cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Place first set of markers at each end of last row.
Cont in stocking st across all sts until work from beg measures 16 ins [40.5 cm], ending with RS facing for next row.**

Sleeve shaping: 1st row: Inc 1 st in first st. Knit to last 2 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K1.
2nd row: Inc 1 st purlways in first st. Purl to last 2 sts. Inc 1 st purlways in next st. P1.
3rd row: As 1st row.
4th row: Purl.
Rep last 4 rows 4 times more. 74 (78- 84-88-92-96-100) sts.

Change to circular needle and work back and forth across needle in rows as follows:

Neck shaping: Next row: Cast off 4 sts. Purl to last 8 sts. K8. Cont in stocking st, having 8 sts of garter st at bottom of sleeve, dec 1 st at neck edge on next 3 rows, then following alt row once. 57 (59-60-59-61-61-62) sts.
Cont even until work from beg measures same length as Back to shoulder, ending with RS facing for next row. Leave all sts on a spare needle. Place button markers on front band, having top button ¾ inch [1.5 cm] down from neck edge and rem 2 markers spaced 5 ins [12.5 cm] down.

Work buttonholes to correspond to markers on Right Front as follows:
Next row: (RS). K2. yfwd. K2tog. Work to end of row.

RIGHT FRONT
Work from *** to ***, as given for Left Front, working buttonholes to correspond to markers.

Sleeve shaping: 1st row: Knit to last 2 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K1.
2nd row: Inc 1 st purlways in first st. Purl to last 3 sts. K3.
3rd row: As 1st row.
4th row: Purl to last 3 sts. K3.
Rep last 4 rows 4 times more. 39 (41-44-46-48-50-52) sts.

Change to circular needle and work back and forth across needle in rows as follows:
Next row: (RS). Knit to last 2 sts. Inc 1 st in next st. K1.
Next row: Cast on 25 (25-23-20-20-18-18) sts. Purl to last 3 sts. K3. 65 (67- 68-67-69-69-70) sts. Place marker at end of row.
Next row: Knit.

FINISHING
Pin garment pieces to measurements and cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.

Join shoulders: Place RS of Back and Right Front tog with one strand each MC and A knitting 1st from each needle tog, cast off 57 (59-60-59-61-61-62) sts for Right sleeve and shoulder loosely. This creates a ridge on WS.
Rep for other sleeve and shoulder. (See diagram on page 11.)
Cast off rem 12 (12-12-12-12-12-14) sts for Back neck.
Sew Sleeve and side seams to markers.

Scarf
With circular needle, cast on 166 sts. Work in garter st for 5 ins [12.5 cm], ending with WS facing for next row. Cast off.
Fold Scarf widewise in half to mark center back. Match to center back neck edge and sew Scarf to back neck and front neck edge. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
