Contrast C () 1
Size 4½ mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. One 18 ins [45.5 cm] square pillow form.

GAUGE

20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

Note: When working triangles, wind small balls of the colors to be used, one for each separate triangle. Start new colors at appropriate points.

To change colors, twist the two colors around each other where they meet, on wrong side, to avoid a hole.

1st Triangle
With A, cast on 2 sts and proceed as follows:
1st row: K1. M1. K1.
2nd row: K1. M1. K2.
3rd row: K1. M1. K3.
4th row: K1. M1. K4.
5th row: K1. M1. K5.
6th row: K1. M1. K6.
Cont in this manner inc 1 st at beg of every row to 18 sts.
Slip 18 sts to end of needle and on same needle, with C, cast on 2 sts and work as for 1st triangle.
Slip 18 sts to end of needle and on same needle with B, cast on 2 sts and work as for 1st triangle.
Slip 18 sts to end of needle and on same needle with C, cast on 2 sts and work as for 1st triangle.
Slip 18 sts to end needle and on same needle with A, cast on 2 sts and work as for 1st triangle. 90 sts. 5 triangles on needle.
Next row:With A, K18. With C, K18. With B, K18. With C, K18. With A, K18.
Rep last row until flap from cast on points of triangles measures 6 ins [15 cm].
Change to MC and work 36 ins [90 cm] in stocking st ending with right side facing for next row. Place a marker at each end of last row.
Work 5 rows even in stocking st thus ending with a knit row.
Next row: (Fold line). Knit.
Beg with a knit row work 6 rows even in stocking st. Cast off.

FINISHING
Fold hem at fold line to wrong side of work and sew into position.
Sew side seams.
Tassels: (With A, make 2. With B, make 1. With C, make 2.) Cut a piece of cardboard 6 ins [15 cm] wide. Wind yarn around cardboard 40 times. Break yarn leaving a long end and thread end through a needle. Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly. Remove cardboard and wind yarn tightly around loops ¾ ins [2 cm] below fold. Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly.
Sew tassels to points of triangles as illustrated.
Insert pillow form.
