MEASUREMENTS

MATERIALS

GAUGE

10 sts and 15 rows= 4" [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. For ease in working, circle all numbers pertaining to your size.

BACK
With smaller needles, cast on 23 (25-27) sts. Knit 3 rows (garter st), noting 1st row is WS and inc 2 sts evenly across last row. 25 (27-29) sts.
Change to larger needles and work in stocking st until 6 (7½-8)" [15 (19-20.5) cm] total length, ending on a purl row.
Shape armholes: Cast off 2 sts beg of next 2 rows. 21 (23-25) sts rem.
Cont even until armhole measures 5 (5½-6)" [12.5 (14-15) cm], ending on a purl row.
Shape shoulders: Cast off 5 (6-6) sts beg of next 2 rows. Cast off rem 11 (11-13) sts.

LEFT FRONT
**With smaller needles, cast on 15 (16-17) sts.
Knit 3 rows (garter st), noting 1st row is WS and inc 1 st at center of last row. 16 (17-18) sts.**
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: K3. Purl to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows (with garter front edge) until 6 ( 7½-8)" [15 ( 19-20.5) cm] total length, ending on a WS row.
Shape armhole: Next row: (RS). Cast off 2 sts. Knit to end of row. 14 (15-16) sts rem.
Cont even until armhole measures 3 (3½-4)" [7.5 (9-10) cm], ending on a RS row.
Shape neck: Next row: (WS). Cast off 5 sts. Purl to end of row. 9 (10-11) sts rem.
***Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 (4-5) rows. 5 (6-6) sts rem. Cont even until armhole measures 5 (5½-6)" [12.5 (14-15) cm], ending on a WS row. Cast off rem 5 (6-6) sts.***
Place 4 markers on button band, having top button 2 rows below cast off edge, bottom button 1" [2.5 cm] up from cast on edge and rem 2 spaced evenly between. Work buttonholes to correspond to button markers as follows:
1st row: (RS). K2. Cast off 1 st. Knit to end of row.
2nd row: Purl to last 3 sts. Cast on 1 st. K2.

RIGHT FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Left Front.
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: Purl to last 3 sts. K3.
Rep last 2 rows (with garter front edge) until 6 (7½-8)" [15 ( 19-20.5) cm] total length, ending on a RS row.

Shape armhole: Next row: (WS). Cast off 2 sts. Purl to last 3 sts. K3. 14 (15-16) sts rem.
Cont even until armhole measures 3 (3½- 4)" [7.5 (9-10) cm], ending on a WS row.
Shape neck: Next row: (RS). Cast off 5 sts. Knit to end of row. 9 (10-11) sts rem.
Work from *** to *** as given for Left Front.

SLEEVES
With smaller needles, cast on 16 (16-18) sts. Knit 3 rows (garter st), noting 1st row is WS and inc 1 st at center of last row. 17 (17-19) sts. Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st, inc 1 st each end of needle on next and following 4th rows until there are 21 (23-25) sts.
Cont even until 5 (5½-6½)" [11.5 (14-16.5) cm] total length, ending on a purl row. Place markers at each end of last row.
Work 4 rows even.
Shape top: Cast off 3 sts beg next 4 rows.
Cast off rem 9 (11-13) sts.

FINISHING
Hood: With smaller needles, cast on 33 (35-39) sts loosely.
Knit 3 rows (garter st), noting 1st row is WS and inc 3 sts evenly across last row. 36 (38-42) sts. Change to larger needles and work 4 rows in stocking st.
Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and every following alt row 3 (3-4) times more. 28 ( 30-30) sts rem. Place markers each end of needle.
Cont even until work from marked row measures 2½ ( 2½-2¾)" [6 ( 6-7) cm], ending on a purl row.
Shape back: Cast off 3 sts beg next 6 rows. Cast off rem 10 (12-12) sts.
Fold Hood in half and sew back seam. Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves placing rows above markers along cast off sts to form square armhole. Sew side and sleeve seams.
Place markers ¾" [2 cm] in from front corners of neck. Sew shaped side of Hood to neck edge between markers, matching back seam with center Back. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
