MATERIALS

Size 4½ mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. One 18 ins [45 cm] square pillow form.

GAUGE

19 sts and 38 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in garter st.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

Note: To change colors, twist the two colors around each other where they meet, on wrong side, to avoid a hole.

FRONT
With MC, cast on 85 sts. With A, cast on 86 sts. 171 sts.
1st row: (Wrong side). With A, K86. With MC, K85.
2nd row: With MC, K84. Sl1. With A, K2tog. psso. K84. 169 sts.
3rd and alt rows: Knit, changing colors where they meet.
4th row: With MC, K83. Sl1. With A, K2tog. psso. K83. 167 sts.
6th row: With MC, K82. Sl1. With A, K2tog. psso. K82. 165 sts.
8th row: With MC, K81. Sl1. With A, K2tog. psso. K81. 163 sts.
Cont in this manner to 1 st on needle. Fasten off.

BACK
Work as given for front substituting A for MC and MC for A.

FINISHING
Sew 3 side seams. Insert pillow form. Sew rem seam.
Tassels: (With MC, make 1. With A, make 1.)
Cut a piece of cardboard 6 ins [15 cm] wide. Wind yarn around cardboard 35 times. Break yarn leaving a long end and thread end through a needle. Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly.
Remove cardboard and wind yarn 7 times tightly around loops ¾ ins [2 cm] below fold. Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly. Sew tassel to corner as illustrated.
