cont = continue(ity)

Inc1 = Increase 1 stitch by knitting into front and back of next stitch

Inc1P = Increase 1 stitch purlwise in next stitch by purling into back and front of stitch.

K = knit

k2tog = Knit next 2 stitches together.

P = purl

P2tog = purl two stitches together

RS = right side

ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together.

Size U.S. 10 (6 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. 2 stitch holders. 2 stitch markers.

GAUGE

15 sts and 20 rows = 4" [10 cm] with Patons® Shetland Chunky™ in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

FRONT
With A cast on 8 sts.
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: Cast on 5 sts. Purl to last st. Inc1P.
3rd row: Inc1. Knit to end of row.
4th row: Cast on 5 sts. Purl to last st. Inc1P.
5th row: As 3rd row.
6th row: Cast on 4 sts. Purl to last st. Inc1P.
7th row: As 3rd row.
8th row: Cast on 3 sts. Purl to end of row.
9th row: Inc1. Knit to end of row.
10th row: As 8th row.
11th row: Knit.
12th row: Cast on 2 sts. Purl to end of row.
13th row: ssk. Knit to last st. Inc1.
14th row: Inc1P. Purl to end of row.
15th row: As 13th row.
16th row: Inc1P. Purl to last 2 sts. P2tog.
17th row: ssk. Knit to end of row.
18th row: Purl to last 2 sts. P2tog.
19th to 22nd rows: As 17th and 18th rows twice more.
23rd row: ssk. Knit to end of row.

Cont even in stocking st until work from marker measures 7" [18 cm],\ ending on a purl row and inc 1 st incenter of last row. 29 sts. Break yarn and leave sts on a st holder.
 
BACK
With A cast on 8 sts.
1st row: (WS). Purl.
2nd row: Cast on 5 sts. Knit to last st. Inc1.
3rd row: Inc1P. Purl to end of row.
4th row: Cast on 5 sts. Knit to last st. Inc1.
5th row: As 3rd row.
6th row: Cast on 4 sts. Knit to last st. Inc1.
7th row: As 3rd row.
8th row: Cast on 3 sts. Knit to end of row.
9th row: Inc1P. Purl to end of row.
10th row: As 8th row.
11th row: Purl.
12th row: Cast on 2 sts. Knit to end of row.
13th row: P2tog. Purl to last st. Inc1P.
14th row: Inc1. Knit to end of row.
15th row: As 13th row.
16th row: Inc1. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
17th row: P2tog. Purl to end of row.

Place marker at end of last row. Beg on a knit row, cont even in stocking st until work from marker measures 7" [18 cm], ending on a purl row and inc 1 st in center of last row. 29 sts. Break yarn and leave sts on a st holder.
 
CUFF
Place WS of Front and Back facing each other and sew center front seam and around foot, leaving center back seam open.
1st row: (RS). With B, K28 from Back st holder. K2tog over last st from Backand first st from Front st holder. K28 from Front st holder. 57 sts. Beg on a knit row (to reverse Cuff for turnback), cont in stocking st until Cuff measures 3½" [9 cm], ending on a purl row. Cast off loosely knitwise.
 
FINISHING
Sew center back and Cuff seam. Fold Cuff to RS.
