Size 4½ mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension. One 12 x 16 ins [30.5 x 40.5 cm] pillow form.

GAUGE

20 sts and 26 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

 

FRONT

With A, cast on 62 sts. Work 2 rows in stocking st.
**1st row:With A, K2. *With B, K2. With A, K2. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row:With A, P2. *With B, P2. With A, P2. Rep from * to end of row.
With C, work 10 rows in stocking st. Break C
13th and 14th rows: As 1st and 2nd rows. Break A and B.**
Commence brocade pat as follows:
Next row: (Right side). With MC, knit, dec 1 st in centre. 61sts.
1st row: K1. * P1. K1. P7. K1. P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: K1. *P1. K1. P1. K5. (P1. K1) twice. Rep from * to end of row.
3rd row: P1. *(P1. K1) twice. P3. K1. P1. K1. P2. Rep from * to end of row.
4th row: K1. *K2. (P1. K1) 3 times. P1. K3. Rep from * to end of row.
5th row: P1. *P3. (K1. P1) twice. K1. P4. Rep from * to end of row.

BACK
Work as given for Front.

FINISHING
Sew side and top edges. Insert pillow form. Sew rem edge.
Tassels: (Make 4) Cut a piece of cardboard 6 ins [15 cm] wide. Wind MC around cardboard 40 times. Break yarn leaving a long end and thread end through a needle.
Slip needle through all loops and tie tightly.
Remove cardboard and wind yarn tightly around loops ¾ ins [2 cm] below fold. Fasten securely. Cut through rem loops and trim ends evenly.
Sew tassel to each corner.
