21 sts and 40 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in garter st.

CARDIGAN
BACK

With MC and smaller needles, cast on 55 (61-65-69-71) sts. Work in garter st (knit every row) for 5 rows, noting 1st row is WS.
Change to larger needles and cont in garter st until work from beg measures 6½ (7-7¾--9¼) ins [17 (18-19.5- 21.5-23.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape armholes: Cast off 4 (5-5-5-5) sts beg next 2 rows. 47 (51-55-59-61) sts.
Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following alt rows 1 (2-3-3-3) time(s) more. 43 (45-47-51-53) sts.
Cont even in garter st until armhole measures 4½ (5-5¼--5¾) ins [11.5 (12.5-13-14-14.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape shoulders: Cast off 7 (7-7-8-8) sts beg next 2 rows, then cast off 7 (8- 8-8-8) sts beg following 2 rows. Cast off rem 15 (15-17-19-21) sts.

RIGHT FRONT
With A and smaller needles, cast on 31 (35-37-39-40) sts.
Work in garter st for 5 rows, noting 1st row is WS.
Change to larger needles and cont in garter st until work from beg measures 6½ (7-7¾--9¼) ins [17 (18-19.5- 21.5-23.5) cm], ending with WS facing for next row.
Shape armhole: Cast off 4 (5-5-5-5) sts beg next row. 27 (30-32-34-35) sts.

Place markers for 5 buttons on Right Front, having bottom button ¾ inch [2 cm] above cast on edge, top button ½ inch [1 cm] below cast off neck edge and rem 3 buttons spaced evenly between.
Work buttonholes on Left Front to correspond to button markers as follows:
1st row: (RS). Knit to last 5 sts. Cast off 2 sts. Knit to end of row.
2nd row: Knit, casting on 2 sts over cast off sts.

LEFT FRONT
With MC and smaller needles, cast on 31 (35-37-39-40) sts.
Work in garter st for 5 rows, noting 1st row is WS.
Change to larger needles and cont in garter st (working buttonholes to correspond to button markers on Right Front) until work from beg measures 6½ (7-7¾--9¼) ins [17 (18-19.5- 21.5-23.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape armhole: Cast off 4 (5-5-5-5) sts beg next row. 27 (30-32-34-35) sts.
Knit 1 row even.
Dec 1 st at beg of next and following alt rows 1 (2-3-3-3) time(s) more. 25 (27- 28-30-31) sts.

Knit 12 rows (garter st).
Change to larger needles and cont in garter st, at same time, inc 1 st each end of needle on next and following 8th rows until there are 45 (47-49-51-53) sts.
Cont even in garter st until work from beg measures 6 (-8-9-10) ins [15 (19-20.5-23-25) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape top: Cast off 2 (3-3-3-3) sts beg next 2 rows. 41 (41-43-45-47) sts.
Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following alt rows until there are 31 (27-25-25-25) sts, then on every row until there are 7 (7-9-9-9) sts. Cast off.

RIGHT SLEEVE
With MC, work as given for Left Sleeve.

POCKETS
(With MC - make 1, with A - make 1).
With smaller needles, cast on 21 sts. Proceed in garter st until work from beg measures 3½ ins [9 cm], ending with WS facing for next row. Cast off.

FINISHING
Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
With B, embroider blanket stitch around outer edges of Cardigan and top of Pockets as illustrated.

CAP
Note: Cap is sized for 6/18 mos and 2/3 yrs.
With MC and smaller needles, cast on 45 (49) sts. With A, cast on 45 (49) sts. 90 (98) sts.
1st row: (WS). With A, K45 (49). With MC, K45 (49).
2nd row: With MC, K45 (49). With A, K45 (49).
Rep last 2 rows twice more.
Change to larger needles and cont in garter st, changing colors as before until work from beg measures 4½ (5) ins [11 (12.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape top: Keeping colors correct, proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). K1. [K10 (11). Sl1. K2tog. psso. K9 (10)] 4 times. K1. 82 (90) sts.
2nd and alt rows: Knit.
3rd row: K1. [K9 (10). Sl1. K2tog. psso. K8 (9)] 4 times. K1. 74 (82) sts.
5th row: K1. [K8 (9). Sl1. K2tog. psso. K7 (8)] 4 times. K1. 66 (74) sts.
6th row: Knit.
Cont in this manner, dec 8 sts evenly across next and following alt rows, until there are 50 sts. Place a marker at end of last row.
Cont in garter st, changing colors as before, until work from marker measures 3 ins [7.5 cm] ending with WS facing for next row. Cast off knitwise.
Sew center back seam.
With B, embroider blanket stitch at top and bottom of Cap.
Twisted cord: Cut 4 strands of A and 4 strands of MC 25 ins [63.5 cm] long. Tie strands of A and strands of MC colors tog. With 4 strands of MC tog hold one end, and with someone holding other end of 4 strands of A, twist strands to the right until they begin to curl. Fold the 2 ends tog and tie in a knot so they will not unravel. The strands of the 2 colors will now twist themselves tog. Adjust length if desired. Tie cord at top of Cap as illustrated approx 2 ins [5 cm] down from cast off edge.

PANTS
RIGHT LEG

With A and smaller needles, cast on 55 (61-67-69-69) sts.
Work 14 rows in stocking st.
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd row: P40 (45-50-50-53). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
3rd and alt rows: Knit.
4th row: P30 (35-40-40-43). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
6th row: P20 (25-30-30-33). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
8th row: P10 (15-20-20-23). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
10th row: Purl across all sts. Place a marker at end of last row.
**Cont even in stocking st until work from marker measures 5 (-6--7) ins [12.5 (14-15-16.5-18) cm] ending with RS facing for next row.
Shape crotch: Inc 1 st each end of needle on next and following alt rows 3 times, ending with RS facing for next row. 63 (69-75-77-77) sts. Cast on 4 sts beg next 2 rows. Place a 2nd marker at end of last row. 71 (77-83-85-85) sts.
Work 2 rows even.
Shape inseam: Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and following alt (alt-alt- 4th-4th) rows until there are 49 (55-69-59-73) sts.

Sizes 12 mos, 18 mos and 3 yrs only: Dec 1 st each end of needle on following (4th-4th-6th) rows until there are (51-55-57) sts.

All Sizes: Dec 1 st each end of needle on following 4th (4th-4th-4th-6th) row(s) until there are 45 (49-53-55-55) sts.
Cont even in stocking st until work from 2nd marker measures 6 (7-8½- 11-13) ins [15 (18-21.5-28-33) cm], ending with RS facing for next row.
Change to smaller needles and proceed in garter st for 13 rows. Cast off knitwise (WS).**

LEFT LEG
With MC and smaller needles, cast on 55 (61-67-69-69) sts.
Work 14 rows in stocking st.
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). K40 (45-50-50-53). Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.

FINISHING
Sew inseams. Sew crotch seam. Fold waistband in half to WS and sew in position leaving an opening at center back to insert elastic. Cut elastic to waist measurement and draw through waistband. Sew ends of elastic tog securely. Sew opening closed. With B, embroider blanket stitch around bottom of Pants as illustrated.

BLANKET
Panel I (make 5)
With larger needles and MC, cast on 31 sts.
***1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K3. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P1. K1.
2nd row: K1. *K1. P3. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
3rd row: K1. *P1. M3. Rep from * to last 2 sts. P1. K1.
4th row: As 2nd row.
5th and 6th rows: As 1st and 2nd rows once.
These 6 rows form pat.
Cont in pat for a further 24 rows.****
With A, work 30 rows in pat.***
Rep from *** to *** 4 times more, then from *** to **** once, ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off.

Panel II (make 4)
Work as given for Panel I, substituting A for MC and MC for A.
Sew Panels tog, beg with Panel I and alternating Panel I and Panel II.
