Size 4.5 mm (U.S. 7) knitting needles. Set of four size 4.5 mm (U.S.7) double pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE

16 sts and 21 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

With pair of needles, cast on 34 (38-48-68) sts.
Work in garter st (knit every row), noting 1st row is WS for 2 ins [5 cm], ending with a WS row and inc 2 sts evenly across last row. 36 (40-50-70) sts. Place first set of markers at each end of last row. Proceed in stocking st, inc 1 st each end of needle on next 3 (5-5-9) rows. 42 (50-60-88) sts. Inc 1 st each end of needle on next and every following alt row to 46 (56-68-100) sts.
Purl 1 row.
Leg Openings: 1st row: (RS). K4 (4-6-9). Cast off next 4 (5-6-8) sts. K30 (38-44-66) (including st on needle after cast off). Cast off next 4 (5-6-8) sts. Knit to end of row.
Beg with a purl row, work 1 (--) ins [2.5 (4-4-6) cm] in stocking st, ending with a purl row.
Next row: K4 (4-6-9). Turn. Cast on 4 (5-6-8) sts. Turn. K30 (38-46-66). Turn. Cast on 4 (5-6-8) sts. Turn. Knit to end of row. 46 (56-68-100) sts.
Cont even until work from first set of markers measures (-7-10) ins [11.5 (14-18-25.5) cm], ending with a purl row. Place 2nd set of markers at each end of last row.
Back Shaping: Cast off 5 (6-7-11) sts beg next 2 rows. 36 (44-54-78) sts.
Next row: K2. ssk. Knit to last 4 sts. K2tog. K2.
Next row: K2. Purl to last 2 sts. K2.
Rep last 2 rows until there are 20 (28-34-52) sts.
Cont even, keeping 2 garter sts at each end of row, until work from first set of markers measures 10 (12½-15½-21) ins [25.5 (32-39.5-53.5) cm] (or desired length to base of tail), ending with a purl row. Knit 3 rows (garter st). Cast off.
Sew Neck seam to 2nd set of markers.
Leg Cuffs: With first double pointed needle, pick up and knit 6 (6-8-10) sts around leg opening. [With next double-pointed needle pick up and knit 5 (7-8-11) sts] twice. Join in rnd. 16 (20-24-32) sts.
Knit in rnds for 1 inch [2.5 cm].
Cast off loosely.
Rep for 2nd leg opening.
