psso = pass slipped stitch over

rep = repeat

ssk = Slip next 2 stitches knitwise one at a time. Pass them back onto left-hand needle, then knit through back loops together.

One size U.S. 8 (5.0 mm) circular needle, 32”/81.5cm long or size needed to obtain gauge.

GAUGE

In Garter st, 16 sts = 4”/10cm.

INSTRUCTIONS

STRIPE SEQUENCE
14 rows MC, 8 rows A, 14 rows MC, 8 rows B, 14 rows MC, 8 rows C, 44 rows MC, 8 rows C, 14 rows MC, 8 rows B, 14 rows MC, 8 rows A, 13 rows MC.
 
SQUARE (make 4)
With MC, CO 3 sts.
Working in Stripe Sequence as follows:
Row 1: Kfb, k1, kfb—5  sts.
Row 2: Knit
Row 3: K1, kfb, knit to last 2 sts, kfb, k1 (2 sts inc’d).
Row 4: Knit.
Rows 5-88: Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until there are 91 sts on needle.
Row 89: K1, ssk, knit to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 (2 sts dec’d).
Row 90: Knit.
Rows 91-174: Rep Rows 89 and 90 until 5 sts rem on needle.
Row 175: K1, sl 1, k2 tog, psso, k1—3 sts.
BO.
 
FINISHING                                                                                                  
Sew Squares together aligning them so that stripes match at all seams and wide MC stripes form a cross in the middle of the blanket.
Border
With RS facing, pick up and k128 sts along one side of blanket.
Row 1: K1, kfb, knit to last 2 sts, kfb, k1 (2 sts inc’d).
Row 2: Knit.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until border measures 2”.
BO all sts in knit.
Rep border on other three sides of Blanket.
Sew corner seams of border.
Block blanket if necessary.
Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
