Size 5 mm (U.S. 8) knitting needles. Size 4 mm (U.S. 6) circular knitting needle 36" [90 cm] long. Set of four size 4 mm (U.S. 6) double-pointed knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge. Stitch holder. 4 sets of sew-on loops and hooks fastener dots. Sewing thread and needle.

GAUGE

18 sts and 24 rows = 4" [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

Note: When working from chart, carry color not in use loosely across WS of work. When it must pass over more than 3 sts, weave it over and under color in use, or at center point of sts it passes over. The colors are never twisted around one another.
Beg at neck edge, with larger pair of needles and C, cast on 40 (46-58) sts. Knit 3 rows, inc 4 sts evenly across last row. 44 (50-62) sts.
Work Chart in stocking st, reading knit rows from right to left and purl rows from left to right, noting side shaping on 3rd and every row until there are to 50 (72-80) sts, then on following alt row(s) until there are 54 (74-86) sts. Purl 1 row. Row 10 (16-18) of chart is now complete.

Leg Openings
Keeping cont of chart, proceed as follows:
Next row: (RS). (Inc1 in first st) 0 (1-1) time. K5 (8-9). Cast off 4 (6-6) sts. K36 (44-54) (including st on needle after cast off). Cast off 4 (6-6) sts. Knit to last 0 (1-1) st. (Inc1 in last st) 0 (1-1) time.
Note: All Leg sections are worked at the same time using separate balls of yarn for each section.
Beg with a purl row, work even from chart until Row 16 (24-26) of chart is complete.
Joining row: K5 (10-11). Cast on 4 (6-6) sts. K36 (44-54). Cast on 4 (6-6) sts. Knit to end of row. 54 (76-88) sts.
Cont even from chart until row 30 (38-48) of chart is complete. Place markers at each end of last row.
Back shaping: Keeping cont of Chart, cast off 6 (11-12) sts beg next 2 rows. 42 (54-64) sts.
Next row: (RS). ssk. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
Next row: Purl.
Rep last 2 rows 9 (8-10) times more. 22 (36-42) sts.
Sizes M and L only: Next row: (RS). Knit.
Next row: Purl.
Next row: ssk. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.
Next row: Purl.
Rep last 4 rows (1-2) time(s) more. (32-36) sts.
All sizes: Work 2 (2-0) rows even from Chart. Leave rem 22 (32-36) sts on a st holder.
Back edging: (RS). With circular needle and MC pick up and knit 24 (38-53) sts along body from marker to back. K22 (32-36) from st holder, dec 1 st at center. Pick up and knit 24 (38-53) sts along opposite side of body to marker. 69 (107-141) sts. Do not join in rnd. Knit 8 rows. Cast off.
Belly edging: With RS facing, C and circular needle, pick up and knit 29 (37-47) sts along side edge (belly) between neck edge and cast off edge of back edging. Knit 4 rows. Cast off knitwise (WS).
Rep along opposite side edge between cast off edge of back edging and neck edge.
Leg edging: (RS). With double-pointed needles and MC, pick up and knit 24 (28-32) sts around leg opening. Divide sts on 3 needles. Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.
*Knit 1 rnd.
Purl 1 rnd.
Rep from * 3 times more.
Cast off.
Collar
With larger pair of needles and C, cast on 4 (5-5) sts.
1st row: (WS). Knit.
2nd row: Inc1 in first st. Knit to last 2 sts. Inc1 in next st. K1.
Rep last 2 rows 4 (5-6) times more. 14 (17-19) sts. Place a marker at end of last row.
Cont in garter st (knit every row) until work from marker measures 5 1/2 (7-9)" [14 (18-23) cm] ending with a WS row.
Next row: K1. K2tog. Knit to last 3 sts. K2tog. K1.
Next row: Knit.
Rep last 2 rows 4 (5-6) times more. 4 (5-5) sts. Cast off.
FINISHING
Sew Collar to cast on edge. Sew loops and hooks fastener dots evenly spaced along belly edging.
