GAUGE

18 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

INSTRUCTIONS

Back
With MC and smaller needles, cast on 57 (61-67-73) sts.
Work 1½ ins [4 cm] in garter st (knit every row), noting first row is WS and ending with a WS row.
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures (8-9-11) ins [19 (20.5-23-28) cm], ending with a purl row.
Shape armholes: Cast off 4 (4-6-6) sts beg next 2 rows. 49 (53-55-61) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures (6--7) ins [14 (15-16.5-18) cm], ending with a purl row.
Shape shoulders: Cast off 6 (6-6-8) sts beg next 2 rows, then cast off 6 (7-7-8) sts beg next 2 rows. Leave rem 25 (27-29-29) sts on a st holder.
Left Front
**With MC and smaller needles, cast on 28 (30-33-36) sts.
Work 1½ ins [4 cm] in garter st (knit every row), noting first row is WS and ending with a WS row.**
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures (8-9-11) ins [19 (20.5-23-28) cm], ending with a purl row.
Shape armhole: Cast off 4 (4-6-6) sts beg next row. 24 (26-27-30) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures (4--) ins [9 (10-11.5-11.5) cm], ending with a knit row.
Shape neck: Next row: Cast off 7 (8-9-9) sts. Purl to end of row.
Knit one row.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then on every following alt row 3 times more. 12 (13-13-16) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures same length as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with a purl row.
Shape shoulder: Cast off 6 (6-6-8) sts beg next row. Work 1 row even. Cast off rem 6 (7-7-8) sts.
Right Front
Work from ** to ** as given for Left Front.
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st until work from beg measures (8-9-11) ins [19 (20.5-23-28) cm], ending with a knit row.
Shape armhole: Cast off 4 (4-6-6) sts beg next row. 24 (26-27-30) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures (4--) ins [9 (10-11.5-11.5) cm], ending with a knit row.
Shape neck: Next row: Cast off 7 (8-9-9) sts. Knit to end of row.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 2 rows, then on every following alt row 3 times more. 12 (13-13-16) sts.
Cont even until armhole measures same length as Back to beg of shoulder shaping, ending with a purl row.

Sleeves
With MC and smaller needles, cast on 33 (35-35-37) sts.
Work 1½ ins [4 cm] in garter st, noting first row is WS and inc 4 sts evenly across last WS row. 37 (39-39-41) sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed in stocking st for 4 rows.
Inc 1 st each end of needle on next and every following 4th row until there are 41 (47-47-53) sts, then on every following 6th row until there are 49 (55-59-63) sts.
Cont even until work from beg measures (10-11½-13) ins [21.5 (25.5-29-33) cm], ending with a purl row. Place markers at each end of last row.
Work 4 (4-6-6) rows even. Cast off.
Finishing
Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.
Using schematics as guide for placement, embroider flowers as follows:
Mark center of each flower on garment piece. Using A or B as indicated, work 16 straight sts for each flower radiating approx (--) ins [3 (3-4-4) cm] from center.
Using contrasting shade, work flower centers with satin stitch.
Neckband: With RS of work facing, MC and smaller needles, pick up and knit 16 (17-18-20) sts up right front neck edge. K25 (27-29-29) from back st holder, dec 1 st at center. Pick up and knit 16 (17-18-20) sts down left front neck edge. 56 (60-64-68) sts.
Knit 6 rows (garter st.) Cast off knitwise (WS).
Buttonhole Band: With RS of work facing, MC and smaller needles, pick up and knit 46 (50-58-66) sts up right front edge to top of neckband.
Knit 3 rows (garter st).
Next row: (RS). K2. *Cast off 2 sts. K8 (9-11-13). Rep from * 3 times more. Cast off 2 sts. K2. (5 buttonholes).
Next row: Knit, casting on 2 sts over cast off sts.
Knit 1 row. Cast off knitwise (WS).
Button Band: Work as given for Buttonhole Band, picking up sts down left front edge from top of neckband to lower edge, omitting all references to buttonholes.
Sew in sleeves, placing rows above markers along cast off sts of fronts and back to form square armholes. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons to correspond to buttonholes.
