Hat
With smaller needles, cast on 85 sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows twice more, then 1st row once.
Next row: (WS). P1. *M1. (K1. P1) twice. Rep from * to end of row. 106 sts.
Change to larger needles and proceed as follows:
1st row: (RS). Knit
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: K1. *C4B. K4. Rep from * to last st. K1.
5th row: As 1st row.
7th row: K1. *K4. C4B. Rep from * to last st. K1.
8th row: Purl.
Rep last 8 rows of Cable Pat twice more.
Shape top: 1st row: K1. *K6. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 93 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: K1. *C4B. K1. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1. 80 sts.

Proceed in Cable Pat as follows:
1st row: (RS). K1. (P1. K1) twice. P2. Knit to last 7 sts. P3. (K1. P1) twice.
2nd and alt rows: P1. (K1. P1) twice. K2. Purl to last 7 sts. K3. (P1. K1) twice.

Rep 3rd to 10th rows of pat until work from beg measures approx 57 ins [144.5 cm], ending with 10th row of pat.
Work 14 rows in Seed St Pat, ending with a WS row. Cast off in pat.
Fringe: Cut yarn 12 ins [30.5 cm] long. Take 3 strands tog, fold in half and knot into fringe ¾ inch [2 cm] apart across ends of Scarf. Trim fringe evenly.
Mittens

1st row: P2. K12. P2.
2nd and alt rows: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.

5th row: As 1st row.

Right Mitten
**With smaller needles, cast on 33 sts.

Rep last 2 rows 10 times more, inc 3 sts evenly across last row. 36 sts.**
Change to larger needles and proceed in Cable Pat as follows:

4th row: As 2nd row.
Cable Pat is now in position.

Shape Gusset: Keeping cont of Cable Pat, proceed as follows:
1st row: K14. Inc 1 st in each of next 2 sts. Pat to end of row. 38 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Knit all knit sts and purl all purl sts as they appear.
3rd row: K14. Inc 1 st in next st. K2. Inc 1 st in next st. Pat to end of row. 40 sts.
